if anything, europeans are as xenophobic as the americans, or the asians, or the russians...xenophobia is a worldwide disease, no country is free from it, imo

Thanks.
I am in England but have spent loads of time working in the USA and all over the far east and indochina.

IMHO the USA seems far more xenophobic than most of Europe but that is not to say xenophobia does not exist. Many areas i have been to show fear of foreigners, alot of African nations i have been to seem to do that as do areas of Malaysia and Thailand.

As you say it is present everywhere but to hold one place up as an example of "how it should be" just makes me crack up when that place is the USA.

My wife is American and is now living in the UK and has made many comments here and IRL about how much more integrated and accepting Europe is.

I really don´t know about degrees of xenophobia. I too disagree with the original poster about europe being more xenophobic than the USA but I know I live in an european country and I see and hear racist comments everywhere all the time, so when someone in this country says hey these americans are so racists or whatever i think look at your own home because the same shit is happening here. ehem, i don´t know if you get my point, sorry.

Its cool i do understand.
You are absolutely correct the first place we must look is inside our own selves and our community.
I just took exception to the original post and IMHO if you compare the US to Europe then xenophobia is more rife in the US because of the insular nature of the country

I love my peeps and Prince heads from Europe, but what is it with all the Muslim bashing and xenophobia? Right wing polititians will just use this to make the fire greater.

While America may have a black President, you guys are going the opposite way.

Sheesh. Love Europe, that's why I don't want to see another nazi germany.

what a stupid post!

1st it´s unlikely that obama will get in even with the most votes.
if he does get in, he still won´t be a true decisive force in governing.

North america is in no way more advanced than europe.

to hell with it, you`re a lost cause.

Barbecue flavored potato chips are more common... those and peanut flavored corn puffs (it's like how come I can't get some simple cheese puffs up in here
mad mad mad ). I live in a very New York Soho-ish part of town and popcorn is starting to show up as an overpriced specialty snack:

oh- but beyond that.. depending which direction I turn to I am surrounded by people from Turkey (both Jews and Muslims), China, Nepal, Afghanistan, Somalia, Thailand, Nigeria, and Ghana in Germany. You know I honestly don't know where the person who started this thread came up with such an empty generalization. There's a level of whack ass-ness to this topic that is so irritating because it stems from such ignorance.
