They're just 'ok'...and a bit overpriced for the quality of food that you get.

HOMER: They all look so tasty, but I think I'll eat this one right there.

WAITER: Why don't you pick one that's a little more frisky, sir?

HOMER: Why?

WAITER: Well, when you choose one that's floating upside down, it somewhat defeats the purpose of selecting a live lobster.

I've never been there. I'm confused by their rep, though. People either say it's fantastic or it's disgusting.

Nay in general, but in a weird way it can be comfort food to me.
We always went there for special occasions when I was a kid. It was such a fancy restaurant to me then. To my parents and my brother it's still a big deal, a fancy night out.
Now, I pretty much think it's gross, but because I only ever go there with my family, I find it oddly comforting. I'd never go otherwise.

Sadly, when I was a kid, many moons ago, Long John Silvers was quite good. McDonalds no longer tastes good either. Back in the 70's their burgers were actually tasty.

Maybe it is just your tastebuds. I also think that some stuff tasted much better in the past, especially fries ( and McD´s burgers) but my friends say it´s actually just the tastebuds getting too old.
lol However, I think the ingredients were a bit more natural back in the day.

I live a stone's throw from the water, so excellent (and not-so-excellent) seafood is readily available. Although a tad bit more expensive.

this isn't limited to red lobster restaurants, but i find that if you live in big cities like NY, chicago, SF, etc. - you're not going to get a really good dining experience at a chain restaurant. not like you'd get at an independently owned restaurant. meanwhile, if you live in a smaller city, like somewhere in indiana or nebraska, etc., it's likely that the chain restaurant locations take more pride in their work because there are less options so people consider a place like red lobster to be "fancy dining", so as a result you get better service, fresher food, a cleaner restaurant, etc.

plus, if you live in new york or chicago, you have NO BUSINESS wasting your time at a red lobster. there are only about 999,999 more interesting places to eat!

You're correct on that. I was visiting relatives in Missouri and some friend of theirs was going on about her fancy dinner at Bennigans. I was eek.

I am sure folks consider Olive Garden to be fancy Italian too.

Yay but not for Lobster. If you want good lobster go to a real resturant. But their shimp feasts and scampi fests and crab days are ALL good in the hood!

I'm just curious...since all lobster is prepared fresh, how can some be good and some be bad?

I dunno because I don't eat lobster.

I am sure the difference is where it comes from. Surely all lobsters are not created Equal.
