and they offer to pay you back for it, and you take them up on their offer because you're JUST THAT BROKE.

would you expect the amount you PAID for the forever stamp or would you expect them to pay you the current USPS value of a stamp?

if they paid you the original price of the forever stamp, would you be upset? would you bring it to their attention? would you just keep quiet about it? would you judge their character?

i don't think this was taken into account when forever stamps were designed. disbelief

I have half a book of them left that I bought qa few months ago. I only ever mail one piece of mail a month (my rent). No one's getting my forever stamps, I tell you. NO ONE!

What happens if you put them away in a time capsule and wait until postage goes up to like $20 - think about the profit margin! You could sell them on ebay!

You think that's bad...I forgot that I had forever stamps and put TWO on one letter because I was afraid of the postage going up before it was delivered! mad

I've known people that have put two stamps on a piece of mail just to make sure the proper postage amount is covered. That's crazy. If there is any question in my mind, I go to the post office and find out exactly how much it costs. I'm not throwing away money like that.

Ultimately, I'm at the post office so often--the one near my home and the one near work--that everyone there knows me and we're all good friends. Sad.

Call me crazy, but I'd rather spend an extra $.42 than go through the effort of driving to the post office, which would probably cost more in gas!

I think they came out with it because they were always raising the rates of the stamps. As soon as they would print a certain price on a stamp they would increase the cost of the stamps.

Say what you want about the US but at least they have screens on their windows and ceiling fans.

I hope Dan knows all of this. lol

Yes, but what if it was to send you a lovely card? I'm not sure I'd feel comfortable asking for the money back.

Or am I simply complicating matters? I haven't read this thread in it's entirety, so forgive me if we're no longer discussing stamps.

do they go up in value? confuse

let's say the price of a postage stamp went up to 56 cents this week. the forever stamp would then be worth 56 cents. and if the price of stamps went up to 58 cents next week, the forever stamp would then automatically be worth 58 cents. and so on, into infinity. FOREVER.

the earth could crash into the sun and if there were enough survivors left for there to be a postal service, my forever stamps would still be good. it's like that. nod

Unless the stamps got incinerated. There's always that to consider. You ought to keep those stamps in a safe place cuz you just never know!

i think you're right.

but let's say we're operating in a somewhat less sophisticated society and i loaned you a forever stamp.

would you be all, "oh crap, stamps just went up in price, i owe anx 60 cents!"

or would you be all, "i know these stupid stamps were only 45 cents when he bought them, if he thinks i'm going to give him a penny more he can just go screw himself!"

or maybe you'd give me a current priced stamp back as payment, but that would only be valid until the next time stamp prices go up, which has been pretty frequent here in the states lately. hence the demand for forever stamps. nod

well if it were me, I'd give you back what I could afford. I sure I would save up so I could give you the REPLAEMENT value of it, since with the original purchase value, you couldn't even get yourself a new one. I'm nice like that, you would probably also be invited over to my house for some soup.

I'd tell him he can go screw himself. I mean It's only a stamp people! Sheesh!
