Father Ordered To Ensure Graduation

CINCINNATI -- A man ordered by a judge to stay on top of his daughter's education has been jailed
because she didn't get her high school equivalency diploma.


Judge David Niehaus of Butler County Juvenile Court sentenced Brian Gegner, of Fairfield,
last Wednesday to 180 days in jail for contributing to the unruliness or delinquency of a minor.

Gegner was ordered months ago to make sure his 18-year-old daughter,
Brittany Gegner, received her GED, but she has not yet obtained the diploma.

Brittany Gegner, who has a history of truancy, said her father shouldn't be blamed
because she lived with her mother when she was truant from classes even though her father had custody.

What BS.
That's not fair at all.

If a judge orders you to do something for the sake of your child... something you should be doing ANYWAYS, then you should be held accountable. If mom's can't keep that girl in check, why does dad think he is off the hook?

She might as well just have been a ward of the state.

So I guess if someone aquitted by this judge commits a crime then the judge will be held accountable too and go to jail. Sounds fair to me.

What is mom doing that she can't make sure her daughter is in school? Is this woman bedridden or something? Can they force the same penalties on mom?
