Speed Racer- who saw it?

I saw this movie and was very disappointed. It was a fave of mine as a kid and was looking forward to this. Very disappointed.

Your thoughts?

PS Iron Man was awesome! And an extra treat at the end credits.

Yeah, I'm avoiding this movie like the plague. Dug the cartoon too much to taint my memory of it.

If they made a movie that was tightly based on the original cartoon, I would throw up. This was a GREAT updating of the Speed Racer franchise. A little strong on the language from time to time, oddly enough.

My kids loved it, and thought it was better than Iron Man. I felt Iron Man was better, of course, but I feel Speed Racer was great too.

I hope they do something similar to Voltron, if they ever get that movie into production.

Not many people. Only made 20 million which, considering the budget and the massive marketing,is a huge disaster. Probaby will not make 60 million total; meanwhile Iron Man will hit 200 million by next weekend.

Any movie with John Goodman AND a monkey is probably doomed from the start.

You need only see who is directing it to know why it would and looks to have failed. 1 trick ponies and especially when that trick or idea was stolen *cough Matrix part 1* don't make for good directors.

I was discussing this movie to a co-worker. The one thing I realized as I was watching the movie was that the race scenes reminded me of the times when I would play with my race cars!

Iron Man was rated PG-13, right? Not surprising that kids would like Speed Racer more.

i saw it and i loved it!

it was like being visually sodomized by a 64-pack of neon crayolas for two and a half hours, but some of us like that kind of thing. shrug

Agreed, I never knew the cartoon, but I thought it was fucking brilliant. The ending was INTENSE!

I loved the colour and the really slick editing.

One thing I've found you've got to be prepared for with the Wachowskis is a FUCKLOAD of the cheesiest lines known to man, and heavy stylisation.

I did enjoy it, in spite of its weak CGI. That fucking monkey almost ruined it for me though, along with his fat porker of an owner's overacting (not John Goodman).

The fact that I saw it at the premier may have tainted my view though. mr.green

never watched the cartoon

had zero interest in seeing the movie

took the kids to see it on mothers day, and I surprisingly entertained.

I mean, make no mistake, it's no cinematic epic, but entertained is a good way to describe how I felt.

Actually, if you're a fan of the cartoon it's pretty good.
Here's the deal.
It's a live action version of a CARTOON.
The Wachowski's didn't give it the "hollywood" treatment ala "Transformers", it's a pretty faithful re-creation of the cartoon.

I mean for god's sake, his little brother's best friend is a chimp named "Chim-Chim".

So if you liked/loved the cartoon, you should like/love the movie.
If you've never even seen the cartoon, and are going to see the new movie from "the Matrix guys" do yourself a favor and DON'T.

When I first read your post, I thought rolleyes that's just Anx being a contrarian again, but I saw it last night in IMAX and it was awesome! I was having serious eye-orgasms looking at that thing, especially the ending.

And having watched reruns of the cartoon in the early 80s, every time Speed pressed the "A" button on the Mach 5 steering wheel and the car jumped with the same sound effect as in the cartoon, to me that was love

Afterward, I had an odd craving for a doughnut with pink frosting and rainbow sprinkles.
