Yes, but we don't have socialized medicine and such. At the end of the day its fairly relative. My particular career would pay evenly keeping me functioning evenly if I were in your ecconomy.

This is all fairly true, but you fail to acknowledge that outside of London we really don't have a good public transport network aside from the (very expensive) train network, so then yes, petrol does become a REAL issue.

I just had my prescription sent to the Giant Eagle pharmacy (its a grocery store chain), and got a $1 off a gallon with their Fuel Perks program. Normally it's 10 cents off for every $50 you spend there, I don't know what the hell the cashier did, but I hope they continue to do this! LOL Apparently, you can earn them from prescriptions as well.

I try to cut back on running errands and making casual outings, but the daily work commute is what kills me.

Here in Michigan gas hit an all-time high of $3.89 per gallon (unleaded) last week. eek But now its dropped down to $3.75. neutral 14 cents cheaper, but still... mad Cant believe how gas prices have shot up so high in just a relatively short amount of time. It was only 10 years ago that we were paying about $1.60 per gallon!

I just drove by the gas station on my way back home and regular is at $4.05 neutral This scares me 'cause next semester, my commute is gonna be much longer to get to school. Right now, it's a 40 minute commute and it will be a 2 hour commute starting in August. I don't even know if I'll be able to afford it. This sucks so much. I don't know what I'm gonna do sad

Didn't check today. But last time was $3.99, 10.002 gals. at $40 so that 9/10th is clencher. When I first bought my car it cost about $28 to fill the tank, now it's $55 at every 5 to 6 days with no end in sight. This is sincerely cutting into my budget.

Currently we're lookin' at $3.77 up to $4.10 per gallon here in the Bay Area, CA.

My van gets 13mpg and costs a little over $110 to fill it. This lasts about a two weeks now because I've cut down on my deliveries.

Found these pointers...

OaklandGasPrices.com Top Ten Fuel Saving Tips
1 Avoid High Speeds As your speed increases, your aerodynamic drag increases in an exponential fashion. Driving 62 mph (100 km/h) vs 75 mph (120 km/h) will reduce fuel consumption by about 15%.
2 Do Not Accelerate or Brake Hard By anticipating the traffic and applying slow steady acceleration and braking, fuel economy may increase by as much as 20%.
3 Keep Tires Properly Inflated Keep tire air pressure at the level recommended by your vehicle manufacturer. A single tire under inflated by 2 PSI, increases fuel consumption by 1%.
4 Use A/C Sparingly When the air conditioner is on it puts extra load on the engine forcing more fuel to be used (by about 20%). The defrost position on most vehicles also uses the air conditioner.
5 Keep Windows Closed Windows open, especially at highway speeds, increase drag and result in decreased fuel economy of up to 10%.
6 Service Vehicle Regularly Proper maintenance avoids poor fuel economy related to dirty air filters, old spark plugs or low fluid levels.
7 Use Cruise Control Maintaining a constant speed over long distances often saves gas.
8 Avoid Heavy Loads Remove the sand bags from your trunk in the spring and pack lightly for long trips.
9 Avoid Long Idles If you anticipate being stopped for more than 1 minute, shut off the car. Restarting the car uses less fuel than letting it idle for this time.
10 Purchase a Fuel Efficient Vehicle When buying a new vehicle examine the vehicle's rated fuel efficiency. Usually choosing a small vehicle with a manual transmission will provide you with great fuel economy.

I also found this interesting, in my second home of Cologne, Germany, one liter of regular goes for 1.49 Euros. Approx 4 liters = 1 Gallon so with the dollar adjusted they are looking at $9.23 per gallon. Must be nice to have a great rail system. I think that's what I miss most about traveling in Germany, the trains...

I am sorry to hear that Jess hug I hate how much this affects all of us, I now make a whole plan/route during errand time, so I am not driving around aimlessly. My drive to work is only 20 minutes, but hauling three girls to multiple events, is too much.

Thanks... I'll figure something out hug

I can't even imagine driving around kids to all the places they have to go to. I just have to worry about myself whew I think that this will definitely change the way that people do things. I've already started using my bike more, as to not use my car as much. Of course I can't use it for long trips, but it works for getting around town biggrin
