the dog we are fostering...

well, "stubby" was delivered to us on Saturday. we all agreed we had to change his name, that name "stubby" is so very hateful!!!

he is supposed to be a silver color like this -

but, his coat is a bit off color because he was living outside in the sun. thats very sad for him as this breed is so very attached to people, they dont want to be away from the family at all!!

his tail has been home cut, thats pretty obvious sad i cant imagine what this poor baby went through...

he is way to skinny, his ribs are totally visible - you should be able to feel them, but not really see them, especially the way that they are now. its obvious that the poor guy not only lived outside but that he didnt eat right at all!! his head is very big, and so are his feet... but he should be done growing at this age, so i guess since he wasnt fed right that had an effect on his size as well sigh

he has a few sores on his nose, we are not sure what thats about. they are not a new thing because he also has scars from sores not cared for in the past. the vet will be seeing him beginning of next week and hopefully there will be some meds he can take for that.

he will be getting neutered when he goes to the vet as well... he had ticks on him when he arrived, we got him some meds and picked all those out disbelief

other than that, he is very, very sweet!!! hes a nice dog who you can tell is grateful to be inside with people... he rarely barks, only 3 or 4 times since saturday... hes good with the cats, thats key to staying here... we are working on housebreaking him, he has had a couple acccidents - thankfully not on my carpet lol but i cant really blame him, he's used to being outside shrug hes catching on quickly though, so thats hopeful.

i'll try to find my camera and get it charged to i can post some pictures of him and his progress... so far we are doing well, hes a BIG dog though - kinda like living with a small horse in my house falloff

You'll be amazed at how resilient he will be and will happily put his sad beginning behind him. As long as he's eating good food he'll make a 100% turn around. Congratulations!

He will get better and fill out because now that poor doggy is finally with people that will not so negligent. Hopefully with proper nutrition his coat and frame will correct themselves as well.

biggrin Good for you for giving that dog a chance to a good life.

love

a weimaraner!!!

excellent thing to do, fostering a dog. where did you get him from?
did someone just deliver him to your home like that? i always wonder
why they have an animal in the first place if they're not even gonna
take care of it.

i can understand people getting a puppy and later thinking "oh this
is a lot more responsability than i thought" etc etc.

but how can you not expect (on buying a puppy) that it will want to
be inside with you and want to be fed and walked? those are not any
weird things no one knows about, they're the basic essentials.

disbelief

anyway, i don't want to rant lol just wanted to say you're doing
a great job. i bet he's feeling incredibly well after his bath nod

I LOVE when dogs give you that look. It's so hilarious. The "good boy" once a minute helps them know you're not mad at them. touched

lets see, where did we get him from?? He was put into the weim rescue after his owner decided he wanted to shoot him... a friend of the yucky guy took the dog and turned him in for rescue after being told that he couldnt keep him at his house... the kids and i offered to foster family a dog over the summer as a way of helping out.

when she brought him to us, he had everything a dog could ever need... 4 huge bags of food, tons of treats, bones, kennel, blanket, and medicine. plus all his vet bills are paid by them - they continue to take care of him until someone adopts him, or until we say we want to keep him.

threadbare, try fostering if you think it would work out shrug there are groups for nearly every breed, it doesnt cost you anything (just attention and love), and it makes ya feel good for helping out biggrin

check this out...
today i was driving back down my street, saw my baby girl with the dog out walking a few doors down from my house so i stopped to say hello. i had the window down in the minivan and reached down to pet the dog. it JUMPED and almost made it into my window falloff i guess he knows me now thumbs up!

You need to post pics of the baby with the fam. biggrin Will he have a webpage somewhere through the rescue organization?

As I mentioned on your other thread, I also work with rescues. So I'm posting a link to the Brussels Griffon Rescue Organization just in case anyone's interested in fostering or adopting a Griff. biggrin

yeah, eventually he will go up on a page for adoption, hes got enough health issues right now that its gonna take a few weeks i think... then of course i will have to determine if my family has become to close to let him go shrug

soon as i get my camera charged and ready to go, i will surely post some pictures with the kids - they are so darn cute together touched

It's hard but you're right about helping others. I have 2 now but it was hard to give up my last rescue but I did it. I just thought of what would happen to a griff in the pound if I chose not to take him in. Plus, he went to an AWESOME couple who'd lost their dog and desperately wanted one to love and spoil. THAT made it easier. When you find the right family it will be easier to give him up. For now, enjoy him and focus on getting him healthy and happy and keep your eye on the big picture. thumbs up!

I find that it's especially hard with this breed to not get severely attached because they are so lovey dovey and emotionally needy...you have to show them lots of affection and a hell of a lot of attention...and how do you not get attached when doing that?

Damn, I miss my dog. sad

Awwwww, what a sweet face. mushy Yeah, it's hard not to get emotionally attached but finding a good home makes it a lil easier to give them up. Especially knowing what a rough start the poor dog had. But you have kids so that's a WHOLE other component I didn't have to deal with. Good luck. . . biggrin
