Eh. I listened to this one a few times. I was really into their first one, and I don't know if it's me or them, but their whole style/vibe seems a bit pretentious and dull this time around. shrug

i don't think the new portishead is any more or less pretentious than anything else they've done in the past. i like it just fine, but i have to admit that i haven't been giving the album very much love since the first couple of times i listened to it.

santogold, however, is turning out to be one of my favorite albums of the year thus far. it may not sound especially amazing on first listen, but the songs are catchy and hook-y enough to get under your skin. it's just good songwriting, and i love the chick's voice.
