Started with just a sore nose on Friday. Thought it was a cold sore at first so put cream on it Saturday. Started swelling Sunday so bought Compeed patches. It was Monday that I went to the Drs and they said it was Shingles. Started on Medication but it has got worse since.

I'd ring the surgery for advice if it's starting to affect your vision, just to be on the safe side. That's if you aren't already onto it.

Last year I was working like a lunatic to clear my desk for holiday; I was hugely stressed and getting little sleep. 1st day of my holiday I got a really painful throat which quickly became unbearable for 2 weeks; every time I swallowed I cried with pain. If I ate 2 mouthfuls of food it was a good meal.

I was prescribed a vast array of painkillers; anti-inflammatories; anti-biotics and tranquilisers and spent 2 weeks drugged up to my eyeballs.

Anyway, I got back home and was diagnosed with shingles in my throat; apparently the most insanely painful thing you can get there. It cleared up quickly enough but I sincerely hope never to get it again.

A guy I know has had a metal plate put in behind his eye to stop his recurrent shingles outbreaks there.

So, yes, it's a pretty shitty thing to get!

Shingles smile Shin- gles smile Sounds good to me smile

I've always thought this too. Something so horrible has such a 'fun' name.

Shingles sounds like some kind of candy bar or fizzy drink.

Had 'em...

You only get them if you've already had the chicken pox. The virus lays dormant in your body until stress on the body brings it back out.

I went 3 weeks without going to the doctor (men!). I thought it was an insect bite, until it started getting very hot and sore to sleep on (I had them on my side). By the time i finally got my ass to a doctor (wife made an appointment, cause I still was gonna ride the thing out), it was in the final stages.
A little antibiotic knocked it out in about a week and a half.
Thanks for the laughs, arguments and overall enjoyment for the last umpteen years. It's time for me to retire from Prince.org and engage in the real world...lol. Above all, I appreciated the talent Prince. You were one of a kind.
