No use, my PS2 isn't modded so it doesn't play US games. Doh! I really should get around to fixing that one of these days. Anyway go buy it and tell me how great it is smile

I'm stuck with Mario Sunshine for a few more weeks then...

That's your opinion, it might be boring to you but it's exciting for others. I'm playing Vice City now and the story line is great.

Damn. I havn't finished the first one yet. Why do all the great games come out ALL AT ONCE right before Christmas? Nevermind. I know why. Sooner or later, i'll get around to checking this one out, but I don't even have time to deal with the games I've got now

Check out Hitman 2, Need For Speed (Hot Pursuit) 2, NHL 2003, Madden 2003 and The Thing if Vice City is sold out.

Why on earth would you be a fan of a piece of hardware? It's all about the games man smile Content is king and all that. Seriously though, there is fuck all on the GameCube so far, and certainly nothing to make me a "diehard gamecube fan".

  • Luigi's Mansion: fun but very short.
  • Pikmin: repetitive and miserable, with a really bad camera control system and arbitrary time limit in the game.
  • Super Mario Sunshine: Frustrating old-school platformer. They've managed to break the beautiful game structure they had in Super Mario 64, make it harder, more annoying, with one of the worst in game cameras I have ever seen. Mmm I like it when the camera swings into scenery and obscures the things that are killing me, and the platforms I am trying to jump to! Cleverrr.
  • Animal Crossing: Very good. I like this. But it's an old N64 game and it hasn't changed a bit.
  • Rogue Leader: Fine if you like Starwars, but if you don't it's a miserable punishing experience, I hated it.
  • Wave Race Blue Storm: Fun, for about an hour. Not worth the price though.
  • Doshin the Giant: Repetitive, ugly, and not fun.
  • Starfox Adventures: Fun, but derivative, and horribly buggy.

Don't get me wrong, I used to love Nintendo's games and consoles but right now the GameCube is every bit as big a stinkfest as the Xbox and the only thing that can save it now is the new Zelda release.

You couldn't be more wrong. How I feel about the Gamecube is how you feel about the severely overrated PS2. None of the high profile games on sony's system do a thing for me. However,

1.Mario Sunshine was infinitely fun (only frustrating in a couple of parts, if anything a tad too easy) A hell of a lot better than Jak and Daxter.

2.Animal Crossing- like you said, innovative and addictive.

3.Wave Race Blue Storm- The best water based racing game ever.

4.Super Monkeyball 1 or 2- Sega's most fun game is only on Gamecube

5.Super Smash Brothers Melee- THE best fighting game Much more fun than any damn Tekken game.

6.Pikmin- Apparently a lot of people thought it was great, it's won several awards in the industry (I haven't played it)

7.Resident Evil series- gamecube exclusive- these games are great

8.Eternal Darkness- fantastic horror game for those not looking for more Resident Evils

9.Mario Party 4- the definition of fun

10.Phantasy Star Online 1 and 2

And that's just what they have currently. I couldn't name 5 Playstation 2 games that I care about. For some reason they think that only a mature rating can make a good game. I prefer fun gameplay.

And coming up you've got Metroid Prime and Zelda to look forward to.

If you thought the Nintendo 64 was better, you'd have to be crazy.

The PS2 might be a bit overrated, but I think the PS2 has better games than the Gamecube, or any other system out there. I'm not that crazy over game consoles itself, but the actual games count for me, and I don't care what game console it is on. I have to admit, the gamecube is fun to play, but when it comes down to simulation games and adult type games, the PS2 wins it for me.

You're right when it comes to simulation and adult games. I say buy the system that has the kind of games you want to play. Nintendo's systems have always had the kind of games that appeal to my tastes, and Sony has the kind of games that appeal to a more "adult gamer taste". The fact is, it was the Playstation that really made video gaming a more adult hobby. Nintendo is catching up with that fact and finally addressing it with a slew of more adult oriented games.

But as a gamer who goes for more classic video gaming, Nintendo (and Sega) are two of the very few companies that still deliver in that area. I'm largely a nostalgic gamer, and I'm more likely to be playing the original Nintendo, Super Nintendo, or Sega Genesis probably more often than any of the current generation systems.

Anyway, the only reason I have preferences of actual "consoles" is because I don't have the kind of money to buy each and every one of them!

Oh yes, Nintendo and Sega still delivers the classic video gaming and i'm glad for that. I still love those classic video games..nothing will never replace them. There's something about those 2-D games that I still love to play even 15 years later. I must say that today's games on the PS2 or Xbox don't have the lasting appeal that the nostalgic games in the 80's and early 90's has.

LOL, I think they suck when it comes to online play. The PS2 online play is free. The Xbox pretty much sucks for now, mainly because they carry pretty much the same games that the PS2 does. I think the XBox needs a couple of breakthrough games exclusively for their system to survive. It'll be a big disapointment for Microsoft if the XBox go out like the Sega Saturn did. I don't think it will though.

Not really. Such childish "X vs Y" arguments reeks of fanboyism to me. It is just about the content. The Xbox lacks killer titles, and so does the GameCube. In relation to the GC, the quality of the first party titles has been very very disappointing indeed.

There are some decent games coming out on Xbox (Splinter Cell, Blinx, MechAssault, Unreal Championship) and there are some decent games coming on GameCube (Zelda). Ultimately though, if you want to play Vice City you'll need a PS2 smile

It's still to argue about which console is "better" - whichever console has the games you want to play is the best one for you. Right now, for your average punter, the Xbox and GameCube are bad purchases, and really only suit early adopters.

If you enjoy your GameCube, that's great, but I think the titles so far have been shit and the sales figures reflect that fact. I love Nintendo, and I wish they'd get their ass in gear, but it remains to be seen if Zelda is enough to save the console. This Xmas will definitely be a PS2 Xmas (again).

The Xbox, like the GameCube, has been an unmitigated disaster so far. Lack of exclusive, high-quality titles have led to the fact that it is now the 22nd biggest selling console in Japan smile However, one thing that has impressed me is XBox Live (the online service). If the XBox can take all the pain and hassle out of online gaming (the massive patch downloads, the driver conflicts etc) then I'm all for it.

However the great thing about the console price war at the moment is that it is very possible to own all three consoles (as I do). Hooray!

Yeah, Ian, I just wanted to point that out that it is entirely your opinion. Most folks who own a Gamecube don't see it as a "disaster". And most of us are pleased with the 1st generation titles as well (they sure were a hell of a lot better than PS2's 1st generation titles). For some reason you are completely ignoring all of the killer titles that Nintendo is putting out in the future. It ain't just Zelda...

If that makes me a "fanboy" I really don't care. I won't support a system that has games that I don't like.

Of course it is my opinion, I wouldn't be posting it otherwise smile

Tell me though - what forthcoming "killer" first party titles are you aware of that I'm not? It's Zelda, and it's Metroid Prime really. Sega / Amusement Vision are doing F-Zero (and a very nice job of it too) but Nintendo themselves aren't promising anything much that particularly excites. I'm not ignoring anything - the titles just aren't there smile

The important thing is that you like the games of course. I'm a huge fan of Nintendo but my GameCube has an inch of dust on it, and Mario Sunshine was a big disappointment.

Don't think so! At least, it wasn't on the tracklists that have been circulated in online reviews of the game at IGN and Gamespot etc. Can anyone confirm?

According to the Official website, no.

http://www.vicecityradio.com/

You really want to look at the playlists for all the stations, some absolutely brilliant stuff there.

Can't wait to be driving down the beachside in a covertible listening to "And The Beat Goes On" by the Whispers or gunning down some gangs in the ghetto while "The Message" is playing.

Oh and I've always wanted to cruise around at 4am with "Billie Jean" pumping out a Humvee...*ahem*...erm, maybe that's just me. boxed

Roll on November the 8th (although I'll probably get it on the 7th as the computer shop I go to usually brings the games out a day before release)...you lucky American people! rolleyes

My favourite PS2 games are :-

Grand Theft Auto 3 (best game ever in my opinion), Pro Evolution Soccer 2 (any soccer fan should agree this is the best soccer game ever - and one of the best sports games ever also - it kicks FIFA's arse!), Medal Of Honor : Frontline, Stuntman, Ace Combat 4, Metal Gear Solid 2 & Gran Turismo 3...

I'm looking forward to Grand Theft Auto : Vice City (which I think will probably topple GTA3 off the topspot for my best game ever), Colin McCrae Rally 3 (which is out already I hear, I dunno if I'll buy it just now though as GTA:VC is out so soon), Metal Gear Substance (although I don't think it'll be that much different from MGS2 - still, MGS2 was a great game), Gran Turismo 4, Auto Modelista, Driver 3 & the next Medal Of Honor game. I'm sure there'll be many more that I don't really know about aswell.

However, I'll be happy for the next 6 months or so with having PES2 and GTA:VC. biggrin biggrin biggrin Good (and geeky) times are ahead! wink

Edited cos I forgot a few, d'oh! sigh
