I GRADUATE COLLEGE NEXT SUNDAY! NOW WHAT? So I'm graduating college next Sunday. I'm really excited, but at the same time, I'm also kind of nervous. I've never worked a full-time job. (Except in the summer - but those jobs were never really, what a college student would call, "work-work.")
Will the jobs be THAT much better now that I have a degree? Or am I doomed to being a slave to the clock and having little time for myself now that I'm out of college? While on one hand, a lot of my friends seem to wish they were in my shoes (about to gradate.) I was the one, in my little group of friends, that stuck to actually trying at school. I didn't fall into the trap of parties, drinking, drugs or any of that. (I still had fun don't get me wrong...just not enough to destroy my chances of finishing college.) Now my friends are fixing those mistakes and will gradate in 2 years. As weird as it might sound, college has been my life since 2002 and now that chapter is closing. Even though, I'm trying to apply for Graduate school, there are chances I might not get in. I know I should be nothing but excited - but I can't help but worry a bit. It is like I have this uncertain future and I won't have enough time to figure out what is right for me. I grew up till about the age of 14 thinking I'd be famous before I'd finish college. (Yeah, Justin Timberlake, I thought I'd have your life!) Now I'm about to graduate college and I'm not sure what to do. The thought of getting a full time job, seems like a jail sentence. I'm use to seeing my family, friends, whenever I want to, unless I have class. Sorry if I seem over-dramatic - at 3AM - I tends to get that way. All I can do is keep listening to the song, "Everybody Wants To Rule The World." It is really comforting for some reason. Something that line "Welcome to your life" really sums up how I feel right now. Does anyone have any words of advice, inspiration, wisdom, anything at all to help me chant the nights along before graduation? MJ Fan 1992-Forever

Don't know if you can afford it, but maybe take some time and see something of the world may be a good idea. It'll give you perspective on a lot of things, besides the fact that it can be loads of fun.
And when you do apply for work-work, it usually is seen as a plus that you've travelled And congrats ofcourse! You don't scare me; i got kids

When I went to college, I had a goal. The goal was to get a job and start living my life. While in college, I interned as places I thought I'd like to work at in my chosen profession. These internships gave me an idea of what working in the field would be like. After a couple of them, I realized that I needed to revise my goal or I'd be stuck in a job I hated.

congratulations!
traveling is a good idea, but depending on what you degree is in you should see what other jobs are out there. check for fellowships, internships etc if you are not ready to really let go of academia yet. Go to the guidance counselor and talk to them. Use that career center for research. Look for something to do that you want to do not necessarily a work work job. You can get 2 part time jobs and still have the flexibility that you are used to. hope that helped We all should know that diversity makes for a rich tapestry, and we must understand that all the threads of the tapestry are equal in value no matter what their color.
