An addition to the family!

MEET CHUCK!

we'd been talking about getting another cat for a while, and after we walked into petsmart this weekend to get food for the kitties who already live with us, well...we mighta walked out of petsmart that day with a new addition to the household. redface

but LOOK AT HOW CUTE!!!

chuck had been saved from getting gassed at the pound by a no-kill animal rescue group, and he was put on display for adoption at petsmart. his little folder of medical records even came with his "mug shot" from the pound, which is the saddest picture ever. sad

anyway, we made the mistake of looking at the kitties when we went to buy cat food this weekend, and even though ALL the kitties broke our hearts, only one of them in particular jumped out and asked us exactly WHEN we'd be taking him home. he was the only kitty to meow at us and grab our fingers when we'd tap the door of his cage. it was one of those moments where we knew we just had to give in - his temperament was too freakin sweet for us to resist.

SOOOOO, we adopted chuck. the clerk who let us take him out and hold him was all "you're adopting CHUCK? everyone loves him here!" and when we checked out, the cashier even cried out "oh yay, chuck has a home!" very popular kitty. nod

so he's been in the house for a total of three days, and aside from trying to drown one of his kitty toys in the water bowl and knocking over some stuff in an attempt to grab a bag of catnip, he's been a total angel. our other cats grady and lucy don't share the same opinion. as you can see, grady is in his own personal hell right now:

but the new kitty is doing just fine, despite all the hissing.

SO CUTE!!!

so i guess i won't be getting diamanda the chihuahua for a while. confused

i think grady has gotten so fat that he's taken to devouring planets, and what you're seeing is some kind of cosmic wormhole effect. obviously, bill the cat is there in an attempt to de-escalate grady's insatiable hunger.

thank you!

i had rules for if we got another cat:

* no white cats, because i like to wear black
* i want an abyssinian or a short-haired orange tabby
* we must get a wee kitten instead of a grown up cat

eh, yeah. kinda let all the rules fly out the window with this guy. lol

we think chuck is at least part turkish van. the breed of cat is described thusly:

Turkish Vans are very intelligent, and will easily
take over their home and owners. Vans are people cats
that want to be with people wherever they go. They
like to play and jump and explore anything in their
reach, which is quite large. They are energetic; they
play hard and sleep hard. Many Vans are dedicated to
fetching their particular object of interest, and many
owners describe them as "dogs in a cat suit" because
of their unusual personalities.

he has the same coloring as turkish vans, even though he's short haired. the personality description fits him to a tee. as soon as we had him out of the box he was exploring the house. not a shy cat AT ALL.

i'm sure if cats weren't colorblind, the aspca would take all our cats for imposing that scary-ass futon cover on them - and in a brightly lit room, no less.

This picture is hilarious. I just had to go to my parents' house last week and their scaredy-cat "Pumpkin" decided this was the trip she was going to try to befriend me by emerging from under their bed and trying to rub up against my legs at the dinner table. mad (I'm not really a cat person.) She is so fat, she actually looks like a big orange pumpkin now.

PS. Congrats on le chat nouveau. We used to have a cat named Chuck growing up. It was because he had a vomiting problem...chuck was short for upchuck. biggrin

i have no idea why my cats have their names. they were already named when i got them. though i like quoting sanford & son and saying "grady, you're crazy! they should call you crazy grady!" i'd like to think that was his previous owner's intent. lol
