I was looking at Neat Image website last night. the results seem good when it comes to noise, but it does blur the picture. Do you use the high pass filter for sharperning later on? Probably, yes. I don't use Photoshop so that's not really part of my vocab, but it may well be basically the same thing it's doing in NI. It has a decent amount of settings to tweak and there's often more than one way to go about it. That's actually a bit of a pain when it comes to a noisy pic like Charlotte's though. It was just too much for the program, but I don't see how any program could do that much better. For most images Neat Image is very good, especially if you get the Pro+ one. The trial version doesn't save at the highest quality. I've 'saved' many an image with Neat Image Pro+. I sound like I'm selling it.

This was a D200 camera I hired, supposedly MUCH better sensor than the D80 Would you say a D200 or D80 is a major improvement over the D70? I'm thinking of upgrading. get a canon! I only got a D80 for the megapixels.

I don't know how manual your settings go, but for a shallow depth of field like in the shot you posted, try shooting in portrait mode - usually those compact camera programs use a wide aperture for portrait taking, and a small one (for a deep DOF) for landscapes. Let me know if that works!
