I like taking photos but I'm not into photography in a big way. I have some fantastic photos of my travels as some of you have seen. I wouldn't say I'm great at photography but I do have an eye for a good photo and particularly on my travels, it wasn't so much my photo taking skills it was simply the fact that the scenery was just so stunning. Hence, you couldn't take a bad photo.

Oh. Damn them! mad

I suppose us Nikon users just have to spend a bit more time post processing then.

I was gonna get PS CS3 the other day then saw it needs something like 300+ MB of RAM just to open. We've got 480 total. lol mad Looks like I'm sticking with Capture NX.

I bought Adobe Lightroom for photo management, it has the raw plug-in built in, but it can't do much about this amount of noise, at least I can't tell much difference even after 100% noise reduction confused All the methods I know for reducing noise really compromise the image.

Do you use the noise reduction in that program? I always read about Neat Image and Noise Ninja being decent, then had a trial version of NI for a while before 'getting' the full pro version at the same time I did the same with Capture NX. That's pretty much all I need now, Capture NX and then sometimes Neat Image. I reduce noise up to where I'm happy the pic image isn't compromised, then just sharpen a tad. I've got to say, I'm very very happy with the program. No doubt you've used it though. Surprised you're not happy though. I have to tweak it quite precisely for each image I'm doing but I'm rarely unhappy. It once allowed me to sort out a pic taken on a 2MP Kodak that then sold on a stock site.

I could post all the wildlife pics Charlotte's got up in her flickr account if flckr would allow me to save them... hinttttt

But my utter fave is a portrait of Oscar, which is probably false advertisement for motherhood; he looks angelic, but with naughty eyes.

He looks like my nephew Jelle in some pics too; I already told my sis to pimp him to kiddie model agencies; he could make money for you, looking angelic in advertisements!

lol

I could use yousendit and send it to you if you fancied giving it a try.

Looking at that pic, I feel your pain. lol

I'm going to run that full size version through Neat Image to see how futile it is.

lol yeah sorry, I know. Evil people steal photos from flickr, I've heard of unscrupulous people taking shots to use in ads without crediting or paying for them! I don't want to make it easier for them!

Nothing is entirely safe.

of course, but they will have to host and link themselves, and this way only a smallish shot is up.

I'll delete it after, but flickr was the only place I have to upload at this size. I just tried the smaller one since the full size was huge. lol Yep, it was a lot of noise and enough to make it impossible for me to find a balance I was happy with. confused

Would you say a D200 or D80 is a major improvement over the D70? I'm thinking of upgrading.

Yeah, not good to say the least. lol With that much noise I just couldn't get rid of enough of it and still sharpen it without it going a bit weird. lol

I was looking at Neat Image website last night. the results seem good when it comes to noise, but it does blur the picture.
Do you use the high pass filter for sharperning later on?
