i wish i could get a check

I'm not getting one even though I totally qualify. My AGI from my salary is low enough that I should receive one, but I had this apartment buy-out situation/settlement that I had to pay taxes on and so it bumped my tax bracket up too high. I'm hoping the IRS will sort of assume I should get one b/c of my 2006 taxes and send it to me without actually checking my 2007 taxes. (Probably not gonna happen.)

It depends on your tax filing status. For individuals I think the cut-off was $75,000 AGI and $150K for families, but I'm going by memory. I got a letter from the IRS a couple of months ago telling me it was going to happen and it had a little chart on the back to figure out if you were eligible and how much your check would be.

I have a plan for what I want in savings for my travel plans this fall and to pad my "oh shit!" fund. Once that's at my level for that, all my extra money's going to the one loan I still have. I should be debt free and with substantial savings in about 2 years.

i actually paid off all my bad/scary debt over the winter. it felt really, really, really, REALLY good. i only have one loan left, and i've resigned myself to be paying it for the rest of my life. it's nice to FINALLY have the ability to save money. i really would like to save enough to take a nice, long sabbatical and re-think how i earn my wages, and start again from scratch.
