Gas Prices...seriously though. I mean c'mon!

Gas Prices...seriously though. I mean c'mon!

Even though I got rid of my gas guzziler, I'm still looking at the increase of gas. What the hell is going on? Seriously though, can we just stop buying this shit so they can get the picture? I mean damn. I had to turn down a job offer on Tuesday because it didn't make sense to drive 35 miles there and back for the salary. I can't drive the mopad that far in this damn traffic. Even with the Honda...the regular gas will be $4.00 a gal. This is messing with my lifestyle and personal life. Hell, I can't even date! WTF?

What kind of shit is that? Am I only? Do ya'll feel this too?

I find it interesting the ways we are having to adjust thoughts and habits.

I find it frustrating that 5.5 gallons yesterday cost me 20$

I still feel greatful that it isn't 5-6 $ a gallon

My father is considering selling his boat because it will cost him $1,275.00 to fill it. Gas will be over $5 a gallon at the boat docks. I know it's a luxury and all but it's still ridiculous.

I was just at the gas station and there was this guy with an oil truck filling up the tanks at the gas station. So I just said will this ever go down? We talked and he told me that it's going up another $1.00 by the end of May. Food prices will go up and we're in a recession. C'mon man...we're still sending people to war.

I'm blessed to even have the smarts to get through this but damn...this is uncalled for and unnecessary.

People are seriously talking scary shit, it's almost reaching a frenzy. Food rationing, bank runs, the price of everything going up.

History repeating?

He should buy a sail boat and live on that instead. While I know it uses gas, wind is always free.

I'd love to live on a sail boat...

It's killing us in Canada as well. Luckily I drive a smaller vehicle that is fairly easy on gas, but it's still painful to fill up at $1.24.4/L. confused

Yes, and even though I don't trust the government, I'm wondering if it's just stupidity. Or maybe a group is controlling this whole picture, knowing what will happen. I'm wondering how far will this get pushed until people start doing crazy shit.

There is NO way my father would buy a sailboat. He likes to get to places fast, Martha's Vineyard is 30 mins away by powerboat, sailboat would take at least 3 hours. He's also a deep sea fisherman and it would take days to get where he wants to go fishing.

Boating is expensive in every way. It will cost him 10 grand between gas, docking, and winterizing the boat for one season. I think he's going to buy a camper and travel around the country instead.

He is even lucky to be able to do this. It's affecting everyone. I'm wondering how this will pan out in the future, because the commutes in Atlanta are terrible. It's your father's freedom to do whatever he wants...You know? It's just terrible that he has to change a way of life because of this stupid ass foolishness.

With all due respect...we have to learn that the global resource on oil simply does not belong to us, and we are going to have to change a lot of things about consumerism in the US. I know it might be shock to hear this, but it's a free marketplace and the people who own the land that produce the oil are pretty much going to do what they want. To begin with, the US is no longer the the only of the largest consumer for oil...newsflash:we have competition from countries far larger than ours that now want oil, too.

They're not going to get the picture because they don't need our money or diplomatic backing. They've got China, the EU and Russia able to buy oil until their hearts content and pay prices that the US can't pay because those countries have stronger currency, not to mention they all still get along together, and share financial interests together, so frankly the oil holding countries could give a blip about how much the the US can pay or not. There are countries like China and India with a combo of 2 BILLION people, and exploding work forces who are willing to pay to keep their global manufacturing and export sales intact. We have a bad economy, aren't providing anything useful to anyone right now, ect.,etc., We can't compete with what the others can do, so...you know, it is what it is. Oil holding countries are pretty much in the frame of mind of "well, you gotta PAY to PLAY" , and since we we can't keep up, the reaction is along the lines of " oh, well too bad for you hammer"

The only thing I can see helping us is that we make drastic changes in how dependent we are on oil. If I'm not mistaken, our neighbors to the south in Brasil are a population of nearly 184 million, the 4th largest democracy in the world. Even being a member of BRIC (the fasest devoloping economies in the world consisting of themselves, Russia, India and China and expected to become the richest, and most powerful countries by 2050), for years they've been using hybrid cars for about %80 of their population, called E80 hybrids. Folks in Brasil are just zip-zip-ZIP-in along through the streets and could care less about the cost of gas...maybe it's time for us to take note wink

Yes, this is true. Unfortunately, everything around us is driven by oil prices such as the cost of food. Everything. Although this is true, I don't see the US even coming close to this type of lifestyle because of the greediness of the beast...Free Market. We're too far into excessive use of our natural resources...too far. Even if you try to cut back, you're almost forced to use other means. We have been spoiled.

If you think that's expensive, you should try living in Iceland. I drive a Opel Corsa that's very fuel-efficient but the current gas price is about 2 canadian dollars for one litre of unleaded 95 oct. gas! I know that prices are even higher in Europe, as crazy as that might sound, but the situation here is very difficult because of the high fuel prices. There have been regular protests by truck drivers that are protesting fuel prices (and some other truck driver-related issues) by blocking highways and driving slowly. The protests have been met with support from the public for the most part despite the road delays but these protests have now become more disorganized and are getting more and more out of hand.
Yesterday truck drivers blocked the main road from the capital to the southern region for 6 hours! And things got so much out of hand that police had to step in with measures I've never seen done here in Iceland before.... And one thing I must mention. The truck drivers are not even the ones that suffer most from the high fuel prices... they usually get the 24,5% VAT deducted for business reasons.
But here's a clip of the protests that were taking place yesterday.... craziness. disbelief

This is not good. Be safe purplehippie, do you live in the capital?

I didn't even know they had this many cops there, much less pepper spraying protesters...

No, they've not always been higher, it's just that our prices have been higher since the mid-90s to reflect the falling supply. America artificially maintained lower oil prices to keep the economy going at full pace.
