First apartment

First apartment

What was it like the first time you moved out on your own? Were you scared...excited? Was it hard finding a place? I think I need to move my ass out soon. I might buy 10 extra locks for my door...

I've always lived with a roommate up until 2005.

Now I am on my own with my son. It's defnitely creepy being all alone sometimes and I am very anal about keeping the door locked all the time.

But I wouldn't have it any other way. Living alone is the best.

I was 14 when I moved out. It was scary and fun. It was a bit hard finding a place, because not to many wanted to rent to a 14 yr old, but I finally found a place that was furnished and I loved it.

I had to move out, I had no choice. My Mother kicked me and then baby Christina out of the house. sad But it all turned out okay. smile

Sorry Moni, hug I did not realize Christina was born when you were only 14, dear god. I was 17 when I had my son, and I thought that was hard.

No need to be sorry, but thank you. hug Life turned out okay, and I have great kids!! Now because of it, I am a young Memaw! I would NEVER go back and change a thing. I always believed that everything happens for a reason, and that children are a blessing from God. biggrin

Anxiety

i've pretty much lucked into every apartment i've ever lived in. i've never had to deal with brokers or apartment agents or whatever those people are called. i've never paid a finder's fee in my life and i'm PROUD OF IT.

my first apartment EVER was when i was in college, and i moved out of the dorms into a big prefab apartment with four of my friends who were looking for a 5th person to make the rent cheaper. i didn't really care about the space or any of the practicalities. it was cheap and i would be living with the people i liked partying with the most, and that was all that mattered at the time. lol

my first post-college apartment was in the east village, NYC. my best friend had just moved to new york and was letting me crash at her place until i got settled in the city and found my own place, but she wound up moving back to the midwest for a while so i took over her lease. it was a tiny railroad layout and technically it was only a one-bedroom apartment (and at one point there were four of us living there lol ), but in retrospect it was probably one of the absolute coolest places i've ever lived. great memories. nod

You had to be on your own at 14? Shit, I was still sleeping with a night light at 14. Goddamn I admire the hell outta you.

I didn't live on my own until I was 24 and I called my dad almost everyday that first year.

I never lived on my own completely, always had a housemate or 2 around. I've lived with 12 different people over the years (not including family).

I lived in an apartment that was on top of a house. The house was in a great neighborhood and the rent was reasonable. The owners of the house became good friends. When I got married, my wife and I lived there until my son was born.

It was more of an adjustment when my wife moved in than when I moved out on my own.

Some people told me it's best to rent with someone...I look kinda young...they told me the people there would just look at me like I'm a kid and say "who the hell are you" "you can't pay the rent." Is this true...they also said they will treat me bad since I look like a kid.
