Why cant we all just stand up and say HELL NO! alright, we all hate the gas prices, thats a given.
but, if we just sit by and keep paying the current prices, they are just going to keep going up.... also, there's no reason for it!! this all started when we went to war, ok, we bought that reason, but, seriously, is there a reason for the current prices? why cant we all just pick a day, make sure everyone is in agreement, and then not go anywhere..... not to work, not to the store, not to the movie, not ANYWHERE!!! I'm sure if we kept that up for a minute, no stores open, noone at work, nothing being bought - maybe our stupid ass president would take note that we DONT appreciate the bullshit and stop trying to rape the hard working families in america.... if this doesnt stop, people, we are fucked One of the best days of my life... http://prince.org/msg/100/291111

I'm still waiting for my "We all must unite and boycott buying gas on such-and-such-date!" email.
Those always work. | |

I hate these high prices.
My hunch is it's the only thing that will spur the age of hydrogen vehicles though. If it's cheaper to go hydrogen than gas, that's the only thing that will swap us over. So maybe, this scary trend is what we need.

But seriously, folks...
I look at it this way: it is completely and utterly ridiculous that we're still using gasoline in 2008; there is absolutely no need for it. But, no sense in bitchin' 'bout the price on message boards or via email; these "boycotts" never work. Do I think it's ridiculous that I'm paying almost $60 to fill up my car? Sure. While I'm lucky in that I can afford it, I still wouldn't waste my time with any of these proposed boycotts if money was tight.

For most Americans walking to work isn't an option. We can't afford to lose our jobs, so even if we take one day off from gasoline consumption, everyone knows we'll be right back to our regular consumption tomorrow. The Montgomery bus boycotts worked because there were alternatives. People banded together and carpooled, walked, etc. And they kept that shit up for almost a year. The Normal Whores Club

I've actually thought about this very thing a few times throughout the years, but not just when gas prices are out of control. I've often thought what would happen if EVERYBODY picked a day to say, "F#*K it!", and didn't go ANYWHERE, use ANY alternate power sources. I think this would be a hilarious day. Everytime I got on CTA we were almost involved in an accident. I told my wife I was never getting on a Chicago city bus again. Right after that experince my mom-in-law was involved in an accident with a bus. She got a nice chunk of money in a settlement, of course, but she's still in pain.
