green drinks/homemade smoothies/V8 & the like... Who drinks these on a regular basis? the nutritional value of the processed ones - any thoughts? I've never bought one of the green ones, they look SO DAMN THICK! I just don't think I could get it down & those 6 pack bitches on Work Out always drink berry smoothies in the morning, I don't think I can handle that shit either, who has the time to blend shit every morning?? I'm trying to get through a bottle of TJ's Garden Patch veggie juice, which tastes like tomato paste & not much else I wanna be a punk bitch & drink V8 Splash How will I get through my pathetic 1 day juice fast if I don't plan correctly??

Maybe I'll do V8 Splash & a homemade smoothie... I'm thinking blueberries, bananas, nonfat soy & flax seed mill - I need to keep it simple or I won't do it. Maybe a little green tea powder too, & a splash of vanilla extract...
I'm talking to myself, aren't I?

They sell green drinks at my favorite juice bar by my train station, but I've usually been too lazy (or chicken, or hung over) to try them yet

i don't like the V8 fruit/smoothie drinks. they're too syrupy and sweet for me, and i'm sure they're packed full of corn syrup and not really that healthy to begin with. good ol' V8 veggie juice, on the other hand, can really hit the spot.
as for pre-made fruit smoothies, i like odwalla, naked, and trader joes products. TJs has great pomegranate and mango smoothie drinks. i'm a fan of sola and jamba juice too, and when i have the time and the wherewithal, i like to blend my own smoothies at home. it's really not very difficult, and it's lots of fun.

I'll check out TJ's smoothies when I go later... . [Edited 4/23/08 15:52pm]

Green smoothies taste great if you mix them with lots of fresh squeezed Apple Juice. The blend actually makes it taste good.

Anything in a bottle, such as that green drink in the top pic, is pasturized and has very little nutrition, and a whole lot of sugar. This won't do you any good. You must blend your smoothie with FRESH greens, then throw a couple of bananas in it, which will make it sweet, and drinkable, then add more and more nutrition.
My personal smoothie everyday is this: Water from one young thai coconut spoon the meat from the coconut and put in blender FRESH greens of your choice (kale, spinich, etc.) hemp seeds dulse kelp powder spirulina msm bananas stevia spoonful of green powder (like berry green) hemp seed OIL gel from one aloe vera leaf just throw as much nutrition into your blender as you can and add fruits to sweeten. The end. I recommend reading this book:

Young Thai coconuts are only 95 cents a piece at the asian markets on Nicolette. Bananas are only 29 cents a pound at Kwik Trip gas stations. (now 64 cents a pound at Rainbow?!?) Farmers markets are starting now. Grow a garden. There are ways to do it cheap!

So the bottled stuff, though less nutritious, is just easier for me. I'll probably get the most out of the straight veg drinks & my own fruit smoothies but it's better than not drinking them at all, I think

Hell, I might as well take up smoking! Seriously though, if it comes in a big jug & is worth the cost, I may partake. Now get over to Stonewall w/ your expensive suggestions - spend like crazy, the mustard is waiting for you!

So nobody blends their own smoothies in the morning?? Where are the fitness/nutrition freaks?? Girl, I got so many random ass kitchen appliances, I'm just all out of room to find space for a juicer, even though I REALLY want one. I just make a pitcher of orange juice every couple days with an electric citrus juicer from Bosch. These mofos have the nerve to charge 2,55 Euro for a half a liter of fresh orange juice at the store over here: that's FOUR dollars for a glass orange juice ?! ...I'm creeping towards wanting a juicer so I can get my vitamin on, but lawd, the SPACE issues ! I did just notice, like Imago mentioned, at my juice bar, they DO add either apple or kiwi to the green juice combinations, which sounds kind of yummy,so I'm getting intrigued now
