Z Cult Wondermint/ Speed Racer/ The Movie

When I first read that this was being made into a film, I wasn't stoked about it. I just thought they would fuck it up. As a kid, I LOVED Speed Racer. Hell, I still do. I have quite a few of the episodes on VHS. I think I dig watching them now more than I did when I was little. All the characters were bangin' and Racer X was off the hook. They always had the coldest races too. Jumping over hellified cliffs and shit. Loved it....Saw the trailer in a theatre and thought I was going to lose my mind. That shit looked cool as hell. I was like "Oh hell yes!!! I'm going to see this.". Same cats that did The Matrix films are doing this. I didn't know that untill I saw the trailer. That's two films next month that I can't wait to see; Prince Caspian and Speed Racer. Yes, I'm a serious kid at heart. Anyway, who else on here digs Speed Racer?

I'm going to see it. I think it looks great. However, movies are so damn expensive I'll probably be waiting until it's on DVD.

Yeah, I've done that with some films. Waited untill it hit on dvd. But some I have to go see in the theatre. It's very few movies actually that I even want to see anymore. I won't even rent most new releases. i used to be a sucker for any horror film. Grew up always going to see those. But ever since the 90's, and especially in the 2000's, most horror movies are extremely sorry.

I remember the 90's reruns of this show. I'm praying they don't mess it up.This is my childhood they're messin' with.
Hopefully, it'll be good because the Matrix guys are making it. smile

I have zero desire to see this. The animation looks cheesy to me and I am also afraid they are going to ruin my memory for me.

The cars DO look a little...off. I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed.

But I'm reserving judgment till I actually see it. I don't want to B*tch about everything and end up ruining it for everyone else. Which I DO tend to do. lol

nod
Looks like a total kids movie - we just aren't kids anymore lol

I watched the TV show for the first time as an adult, and it did nothing for me, I was crazy about Battle of the Planets though, so a movie of that better be brilliant to live up to my memory of it no no no!

How do u think I feel...Hell, I watched this show religously when I was a kid during the 70's. But like I said, the trailer that they showed in the theatre, (different from the one they show on t.v.) looked bangin'. Especially because of the special effects. It looked like they stayed true to the cartoon. Meaning the car races and the situations. I saw two of The Matrix's and those cats are serious. I don't think their intention is to fuck up Speed Racer. They know most folks who are hip to the cartoon are gown folks today. Little kids right know don't know anything about Speed Racer so I hope they don't cater to them. That's what will fuck it up. That's what made the Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe so good. They stayed true to the book and the original animation of it that aired on CBS in 1978. So, I hope Speed Racer is the same. If the trailer wasn't impressive to me, like I stated in the thread, I had no intention in going. Because I thought they would try to pimp it too much to nowadays kids. But the trailer looked more serious in theme.

I will always associate Speed Racer with the torture of having to watch it as a child only so I could see Spider Man afterwards. shake Speed Racer was always so horribly boring to me.

It used 2 crack me up that no one knew that Racer X was Speed's brother when he had that Big Red M on his chest. The same M found on Speed's car.

I noticed that when I was a kid. My brother and I would laugh about it every time Racer X showed up. Speed: 'I wonder if that's my long lost brother"?
That was funny as a kid.

I just loved all of the characters in the cartoon. Speed, Pops and Mom Racer,(that was her charcter name). Trixie and Sparky was cool. I dug Spridle and Chim Chim. They were funny as hell. I liked how although Speed would always tell Spridle that he couldn't go with him on some race, Spridle hard headed ass would always take Chim Chim with him and hide in the trunk. And Racer X was too cool. I hope the film does this justice. Because the cartoon was loved by millions of kids worldwide. Especially during the 70's when I was little,

Oh shit, the acrobatic team was off the hook. Those spins they would do in mid air was the shit. They MUST have that shit in the film. I think that's why the Matrix cats got on board to do this. But yeah, Doug was hella cool. He had that major ass grin all the time.

Well, this was when I was visiting my grandparents' house in rural Ohio. The ONLY thing halfway "fun" to do was watch TV... or so I thought. So to get to Spider Man, I "had" to watch Speed Racer. There were no other options. mad bawl
