(Snipes outside sentencing.) Wesley Snipes Sentenced To Prison April 24, 2008 Article Action star Wesley Snipes was sentenced to three years in prison following his conviction on tax evasion charges. A jury found Snipes guilty in February of willfully failing to file taxes for three years, in which the government said he owed $2.7 million. But Snipes' attorneys say his tax liability was only $228,000. Snipes was acquitted of three identical counts and two felony charges of tax fraud and conspiracy. Still, the U.S. Attorney pressed Judge William Terrell Hodges for the maximum sentence of three years in prison and $5 million in fines. Prosecutors told the judge that such a sentence would "deter tax fraud nationwide." The prosecution said Snipes is a "notorious" offender who dogged the IRS for years and should be made an example of. The actor's attorneys said the government's sentencing guidelines aren't fair for tax convictions like his. Snipes' attorneys said he deserved only probation for the misdemeanors, and on Wednesday submitted three dozen letters from friends attesting to his character. Those coming to Snipes' aid included actors Denzel Washington and Woody Harrelson, who starred in three movies with Snipes. Washington said Snipes "has always been a pillar of dignity, distinction, value and powerfully intended integrity." Other Star Settle Cases Singer Marc Anthony, who never faced criminal charges, agreed last year to pay $2.5 million in back taxes to federal and state governments after failing to file tax returns on $15.5 million that he earned over five years. Willie Nelson, the pigtailed country music star who crooned "Mamas Don't Let Your Babies Grow Up to Be Cowboys," settled a $17 million debt to the IRS for $6.5 million. And on April 15, tax day, billionaire Igor Olenicoff was sentenced to 120 hours of community service and two years' probation to resolve his criminal tax case, an agreement that also included paying $52 million to the IRS. Such punishments "point out the travesty of imprisoning Wesley Snipes for his misdemeanor convictions," defense lawyers said in a conclusion that asks for probation "with whatever conditions the court deems just and proper."

Wesley might get release after the first year on good behavior. Not too many prisoners are stupid enough to get into a fight with an expert in the martial arts such as Wesley himself. He'll be alright.

I doubt he'll do the whole three years, but he will do at least half of the sentence. If the law threw Survivor winner Richard Hatch in jail for the same charge, Wesley wasn't going to get any soft treatment. Martha Stewart was locked up over some financial charge, the courts don't play around when it comes to financial crimes. Jeux Sans Frontiers

Well he should had filed his taxes..end of story. Should he had gotten 3 years...well they got Ron Isley too didn't they? Besides most criminals are fans of New Jack City, i'm sure Wesley won't have any problem reprising his lines... I will forever love and miss you...my sweet Prince.
