Im thin king about doing the same thing, you'll have to give me the 411 on it.

OK, please explain the issue with the cd comp (mix) making. I make mixes for a hobby i do too. basically, when you rip a CD to iPod, you do it via the iTunes software, which converts the music files to (i think it's called) mp4. music in the iTunes store are in this format. you can only use these music files on an iPod, which is restriction #1. restriction #2 is that you can't upload music from your iPod to your computer, so there's no using your iPod to make compilations. you can use the iTunes software (and the music you save to your iTunes library) for making CD comps, but i don't like it because, if for no other reason, i'm too happy with using nero. so. my iPod is my stereo and my music collection is still being purchased the same way it always has been, so i can have the versatility of CDs and mp3s for cd comp projects.

Is that what you are saying? I wouldn't have anything on there that I wouldn't have on my harddrive first. I think.... 2010: Healing the Wounds of the Past.... http://prince.org/msg/8/325740

I think.... when you rip your cds to iTunes ap. usually people are ripping them to an mp3 format which is a lower quality recording than the cd. but you can change the setting in iTunes preferences to 'applelossless' and it will rip it in its full content. typically people go with mp3 to save storage space. this is what I understand , if i am wrong someone please correct me.

I think.... right. the ipod would just be for your listening pleasure and not really functionable as a tool for making your CD comps. though whatever music files you transfer to iTunes files are COPIES. you still keep your original mp3s if you decide you want them on your iPod...if that makes sense.

i will say that i had my 40gb zen nomad mp3 player for just about 4 years, and i never ever had a problem with it. in fact, i'm gonna keep it and use it for a hard drive, once i figure out the best use for it.
zen is way more versatile, but i think if you steel yourself for the limited options in terms of what you can do with the music files, iPod is just luxuriously user-friendly. i used to be creative labs all the way, but what can i tell ya? i was seduced and i crossed over to the dark side.

Comps - I still have some Nero comps floating, haven't really faced the issue yet. I think I just finished up the important ones & started doing my comps in ITunes by creating a playlist w/ just those songs...

Stymie said: I told her I want the iPod Touch. A friend has one and they are sooooo freakin' cool and it has Word and Excel and a place I can keep notes without having twelve billion little pieces of paper with notes to myself on them. But it only holds 1700 songs. It is sooooo cool though.
It's 300 bucks. Everytime I think of spending money on myself, I always think: what if I need the money for something else or I think of what I could do with the money instead of just relaxing about it. Anywho.... I need a new vacuum and a GPS for the car which I could get with the same 300 bucks or I could get a vacuum and a 2nd generation iPod whick would hold my entire collection for 300 bucks. Suggestions? Thanks. Um ~ a plane ticket (or two) to Detroit? jk The iPod is the way to go ~ you can always get a vaccum cleaner without feeling too guilty. Let her indulge you luv. Anxiety said: oh my god, GET THE 160GB IPOD CLASSIC.
seriously. it makes me so happy. i have about 75% of my music collection stored on it right now (not to mention a bunch of videos and an episode of 'strangers with candy' ), and i've only used up about 47GB. the word/excel thing is nice, but when your mind wants to go for a scrap of paper to jot down a note, you're still gonna use those damn scraps of paper. don't you have a blackberry for that kinda stuff? i like to keep my pleasure toys and my business toys separate. it's like, you know, who wants a vibrator with a built-in scientific calculator? i'm totally getting the 160 GB iPod classic. in fact, the only thing that's stopping me is that, fortunately, there aren't any in stock in the region i'm currently stranded. i say fortunately, because my 60GB iPod works just fine, even though it's getting full. but i also have a feeling i'm going to have to buy a laptop this week or next, so the iPod is going to have to be back-burnered.

just add the music folder to itunes with file, add folder and will convert them automatically and import the library. If you have dupes there is a tool to show them but if (like me) you have like 20gb of them you need a de dupe program

Definitely let your sister buy something for you Ivy. Whatver you decide, make sure it's something you really want (don't go for the vacuum )
What about a day at a spa? Maybe something like that doesn't interest you, but I would die for it. Massage, facial, pedicure - Yummy! But, it sounds like you'll get the most enjoyment from the iPod, so go for it.
