Do you wash your hair every day? If not, how many times/wk.?
How long do you lather? Do you do so gently or are you a hair Dom/Dominatrix? Do you rinse and repeat? Condition? If so, what's your routine there? This thread is dedicated to Imago.

Ex-Moderator | I try not to wash my hair every day, but I usually wash at least 6 times a week. I used to do every other day, but somewhere along the way my hair started getting just a bit too greasy by the afternoon of the second day to go that route.
The reason I don't like to is to preserve my color. The more I wash, the faster it fades. I'm lucky in that my hair is still quite vibrant when it's all faded out, but it's a different shade og red then when I first get it colored. I lather up good, rinse, then put in conditioner. I do everything else I need to do in the shower, then rinse the conditioner out as the last thing before I'm done. |

Could you tell us why you feel short hair necessitates extra washing?

maybe twice a week, max 3 times.....not more!
I can style it better that way!

I used to only wash my hair 2x a week. It kept it in amazing condition...but now I feel gross if I don't wash it every morning.
I wash once then condition the hell out of it, let it sit while I wash then rince out the conditioner last. I never, ever blowdry my hair.

And, including shampooing and conditioning, could you ballpark your total lathering time for us? Do you rinse before applying shampoo?

Of course I get my hair wet before shampooing, I thought that was a given. Total lathering time? Perhaps 2 minutes? |

It's the shampoo that's making your hair oily. If you go longer between shampoos, it won't be so oily anymore. It takes a couple weeks to get the oiliness out, but then it evens out.

Ok, I never brush my hair with a hairbrush - it's just too damaging. What I do is use copious amounts of conditioner and take out the tangles with my fingers. So I don't lather it in per say, I work it through my hair. This way when I rinse I have zero tangles and I can just let my hair air dry.

Tell us about your lathering regimen. I wash my hair everyday. I don't think it's healthy to do that, but I apply hair wax/mud each day to style it a bit, so I don't want to go to bed with gunk in my hair. My stylist has me alternating shampoos and conditioners so that I don't use the same kind for more than a few days. I have no clue why, but they claim it's not good to use the same shampoo all the time. I think it's just a way of selling more product. I. love. this. thread. and I love you! . I've read that this is a way of preventing "bad hair days".

Uh, total lathering time, please? Fast. If it took me more than 5 minutes for all of it, I'd be surprised. Same with styling the hair. If it takes more than a few seconds, than you have the wrong haircut.

I feel gross not to wash my hair every day even though I know it's better not to. When I wash I do it gently to prevent my hair from breaking. Then I condition it.
Unfortunately I have to blow dry b/c I have shitty hair that if left alone looks terrible. If I'm not going anywhere I might let it air dry. They make a dry shampoo in a powder form that is supposed to work wonders. I may try that to avoid having to wash and dry so much. [Edited 4/22/08 7:24am]
