huge fan. huge. even when he's not on his 'a' game, he still manages to provoke and entertain. from my perspective, the only true 'dud' in his filmography is 'girl 6'. his best work, for me, is 'do the right thing'. also loved 'jungle fever', 'crooklyn', 'mo better blues', 'get on the bus', 'clockers', 'bamboozled' and 'malcolm x'. was a mite disappointed to see him go "mainstream" with 'inside man', but it was still a decent flick. but there are lots of other directors who could have shot that film. i prefer to see spike doing other things. i worship at the alter of eversoul's ass. i rim. therefore, i am.

The 'fuck you' scene in the bathroom was so trademark 'Spike Lee'
touched on so many social issuses in just a few minutes It reminded me of one of his other films but I can't remember which one If you will, so will I

I know exactly what you're talking about in another film, but I can't remember which one either... I think maybe it was something with John Turturro in Do the Right Thing? (I haven't watched any of his films for awhile.)

Dude, see "Then She Found Me" (Helen Hunt/Bette Midler/Colin Firth/Matthew Broderick), when it hits Toronto. Saw it last night. Odd how my sinuses kept causing my right eye to water.

...that got me thinkin, I also really liked School Daze and kinda liked Girl 6 so maybe I am a Spike Lee fan? Is anybody else? Whats your favorite movie by him? What was his worst? ...I went to see Clockers with my mom, as a kid and I remember it being so awful that we walked out of the theater and snuck in another one I love most of Spike's movies, I wish he'd make more. My favorite of all his movies is School Daze, the story, the acting, the music, and the message is what makes it tops for me. His worst is Bamboozled IMO, it wasn't up to his normal standards. To me you can't go wrong with his 1986 - 1992 stretch of films: She's Gotta Have It (1986) School Daze (1987) Do The Right Thing (1989) Mo' Better Blues (1990) Jungle Fever (1991) Malcolm X (1992) Of his movies in the last Ten years I dig "She Hate Me" and "Summer Of Sam" most BTW I like 25th Hour too [b][Edited 4/22/08 22:09pm]

big Spike fan, pretty much since he started I was too young to really get him when She's Gotta Have It came out but I was SOLD from School Daze on, that's one of my favorite films of all time. He does his thing, I don't always agree w/ him (Rhonda, I so hear you on the female characters!!!) but I dig him & always want him to do well...
faves: School Daze, Do the Right Thing, Mo Betta Blues, Summer of Sam not faves, but I still dig them: Jungle Fever, Get On the Bus, Bamboozled (problematic, but bold as hell!), Malcolm X, Inside Man weak ones: Crooklyn, Clockers, He Got Game, 25th Hour (good, but I don't ever have to see it again) bad ones: She Hate Me (unwatchable!!), Girl 6 & yes, 4 Little Girls should have gotten WAY more recognition

well I'm old enough to remember Do the Right thing and it came out like a sledgehammer. One of the most vivid cinema going experiences for me, and a real eye-opener on things from half a world away.
I liked parts of Summer of Sam, but found the sexual content overdone, it was unnecessary. School Daze, Malcom X, and Mo's Better Blues all have good parts.

Yes. My favorites: Do the Right Thing, Malcolm X, School Daze, Get on the Bus "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

I was like, "no, whats 'too bad' is that she did, but most people have no idea" If you will, so will I

I like that movie too. It was semi-autobiographical cuz Spike's mother died of breast cancer. The lil girl is supposed to be his sister Joie Lee.

She was so beautiful AND talented. This movie was all over the place but Spike really represented many facets of Black culture that had never really been shown.

Oddly enough, around the time this movie came out I was a bridesmaid in a wedding and our dresses were very similar. . . except in fuschia. On second thought. . . don't tell nobody.

It´s more than good, imo, but I feel the same as you. I don´t think I will ever want to see it again. Don´t know why really. As for Spike Lee, he´s one of my favorites
