COMPUTER QUESTION: ULTIMATE VISTA SP1? K I've been doing some research bout the new SP1 download and have heard its really a positive update, or really just a lame mostly waste that bogs down your computer.
So I thought I would ask the org. Has SP1 improved any of the Ultimate programming? I've been using Ultimate for bout 4 months now and have yet to have a problem so I'm wary of downloading something that I've read that actually slows down the speed. Any thoughts? I still use XP Pro. Works fine. on't need 2 gig memory in order for the operating system to work fine.
And the other plus is all the programs and hardware is supported by it. Vista sucks. SP1 just makes it suck a little faster.

Eventually, you'll need to upgrade.
You can test it by making a backup of your PC first. Look into Disk Imaging on google. I use http://www.ubcd4win.com/ and other such boot disks to boot my system outside of windows, and image a PC to an external hard drive or networked PC. Then I do any changes and if I don't like them, I put the restore image back on to put me where I was before the update. Otherwise, if you're not interested in that, I'd hold off until you're forced to put the update on. At some point, you'll stop receiving security updates from Microsoft because you're not at SP1. That means your machine will be vulnerable. -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
Still it's nice to know, when our bodies wear out, we can get another -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-

Oh my god, Vista sucks ass. There's been several updates since I got my computer so it's faster but that damn pop-up every time an outside program needs to do something is still irritating as hell. I miss XP.

OK, I made the MAC swap shortly after Vista was introduced and never swapped over to Vista on my PC before it finally crapped out.
Can somebody explain in a few short bullet points what makes Vista different from XP outside of the cosmetic differences (menu changes, shortcut-key changes, etc.) ? I've seen it in the stores, and it's instantly recognizable as being different visually, but being it took MS years and years to produce, I'm speculating they made a few big changes under the hood.

BAsically it is shit. Just found out the test machine we have running that is now sp1 is constantly using full memory (4gb) due to sp 1 crapping out the DRM stuff.

Not to Vista. XP will be supported until 2010. It give 2 more years of finding other operating systems that work better. I believe by 2010 Linux will have much better variety of programs. Then everything will be free, or very close to free. Vista usual a LOT of memory. It's just the operating system. It should not require me to upgrade my not so new but not so old computer, just to run...the operating system and already be out of memory. I need that memory for the heavy professional programs I am supposed to run on the machine. XP does that better. And it's been tested. And besides some effects that will draw eyes of customers who will probably use the computer to run solitaire, and a different way of securing your system, by constantly telling you that something is about to do something that you actually wanted it to do, there's not real change. This system is a weak, faulty and not so cheap attempt to immitate OSX. Which to be honest, is also going the wrong way and making the system suck up resources. [Edited 4/25/08 7:19am]

[Edited 4/25/08 7:19am] The OP stated that they are using Vista Ultimate. Therefore, the fact that XP will be supported until 2010 is irrelevant. Vista is a response to the user/business/government base wanting better security. Honestly, using Windows 2003 and Vista Enterprise in an upgraded Active Directory environment is just gorgeous from an IT perspective. I can't wait until 2008 when more and more features get programmed into the various admin tools. It's just too expensive to go and upgrade everybody in this economy, especially since XP is running just fine (ain't broke why fix it mentality). -=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-
