nod Yeah, I know. There's another brand that if you look at the back it says LG on it.

my next purchase will be an OLED As soon as they come out with larger sizes and lower price. I would think they should be out full throttle by the time of the digital switch over.

What size?

What do you mean "nonsense"

These days, it's your cable box or Direct TV box that receives the signal, NOT your TV. U could have the oldest TV in the world, as long as u have the cable/direct Tv box, u will be fine. They have the public believing that they NEED new Tv's. That's just NOT true.

Really??? The commercials I've seen are telling the public they don't need a new TV, but they'll need cable/satellite receiver OR a digital signal receiver. They even tell folks how to get the rebate for the receiver if they don't have cable.

larger than the one that sony has out now..lol
I said this before, this isnt some new technology that sony created, I believe its from sweden. A number of years ago they developed a paint that you can apply to anything and when it dries it creates a film over a plama which has a connection imbedded in it. Its called OLED paint. So you can have it any size you wish on basically any surface.
I dont understand why the sony one is so expensive.

I was under the impression that i needed a new t.v., too until the local weatherguy explained it plain and simple: if you have cable, you don't need to worry about it.

I have two plasmas: 50" samsung 1080p and a 42" Panasonic 1080i.

I have basic connections to direct tv receivers with component wiring.

I almost got a Panasonic, too. I love my Samsung but that burn in shit is no joke on a plasma. Everytime I watch a game I have to run the burn in protection because the score and station logo burns into the screen. That's why I put an LCD in the bedroom because I knew that TV would be on virtually 24/7 and with LCD no burn in. Why didn't you do HDMI instead of component connections?

Honestly, I am not that big on getting the latest and greatest in electronics. I bought the plasmas because I wanted to have tvs mounted on the wall. My house was wired with component wire when built so I just had the tvs mounted that way.

Plasma is a technology that is being phased out. LCD is the best choice now. OLED is brilliant, however it's high price and short life span don't warrant it being a contender.

Place of manufacture or company of manufacture really doesn't mean much when comparing the actual technology of TV's. A lot of companies will strike deals with even rival corporations to manufacture the units, for whatever reason IE: cheaper to have them produce it, use the rival's R&D or a patented tech. So don't pay much attention to who or where is manufacturing the TV.

The SONY name ensures I am getting tech. that is NOT in other TV's. They are notoriously expensive, but prices come down as long as you don't need the newest first.

I will have that XBR5 and be the envy of all my boys come High-Def Hockey, Baseball, PS3 and Blu-Ray movie time.

nod

My house is wired with component cables too so I just dropped the HDMI cable in the holes. With HDMI you only need one cable because it carries both the video and audio signal in the same cable vs. component where it's separate. IMO it makes a huge difference in clarity for shows carried in HD and in the audio if you're using the TVs speakers. I was really surprised.

I have not bothered 2 test it out, but is HDMI audio better quality than digital light pipe or digital Co-axe?

I dunno, if it technically is, but when I did my never-ending research into this stuff everythin I found in various sources extolled the virtues of HDMI being far and away superior.

Most of my equipment has been on HDMI since day 1, except my DVD player in my bedroom which is hooked up to the DishNetwork receiver through component cables. Anytime I watch cable TV through the DVD player, there is a very noticeable degradation in the picture clarity and the sound volume goes down drastically. I don't know if this is because it's not hooked up by HDMI or if it's because the cable signal is going through another component instead of directly to the TV. Either way, the picture and sound sucks.

I have a source for cheap HDMI cables so let me know when you're ready. I think I paid $25 for a 15ft cable that woulda been almost $200 at Best Buy. disbelief

I used 2 spend literally thousands on dollars getting my car systems the treatment and one day I discovered it was a waste of $$. All u have 2 do 4 any car system is:
4 to 6 midrange/tweeters speakers and 1 or 2 eight-ten inch Subs.
Make sure that the speakers have a separate amp amd the sub has a 200 watt or more amps and your are ready. When I discovered this, about 7 years ago I was pissed. I've wasted so much money its ridiculas.

I go with the Harmon Ipod system and I'm good 2 go. Don't need all that DVD and other stuff.

I've only owned two cars my whole life and I didn't do anything to the first one. I've had this one for 7 years now and was cool with the system UNTIL I got an ipod. Turns out my BMW radio couldn't interface with the ipod cuz there wasn't an auxiliary jack. Plus, all my speakers were blown anyway so I had to upgrade everything. Even just putting in the stuff you mentioned cost almost $3000 but BOY is it BUMPIN!!! music I've already blown out the sub once in the 6 months since I put the system in. giggle boxed

What kind of sub did u have? A good 10 inch 500 watt sub so do the trick.
Also, I don't like them 2 much, but if u have a tape deck in your car, the ipod will work with the tape deck.

I tried other avenues to integrate my iPod but could never tune into a decent radio station without static. Plus my factory speakers were crappy and already blown. I wanted everything to be seemless and my iPod in the glovebox.
Because I have a convertible, there's limitied space for the components and I wanted to preserve my limited trunkspace, so they had to use the housing that was already there which could only fit an 8" 800-watt (peak) JBL sub. I also have a JL Audio 6 channel amp.
