Mother, Daughter Charged With Attacking Teacher Mother, Daughter Charged With Attacking Teacher
POSTED: 3:39 pm EDT April 21, 2008 UPDATED: 5:35 pm EDT April 21, 2008 ATLANTA -- A high school teacher tells WSB-TV Channel 2 she was brutally attacked in her classroom by one of her students and the girl's mother. Police charged Georgia Thornton, 44, and her 17-year-old daughter Sequita with attacking Felecia Williams, a teacher at Southside High School on February 28. The official charges against the mother include battery on a school teacher, disrupting a public school, criminal trespass and theft by taking in connection with the alleged attack on teacher. Sequita Thornton was charged with battery on a teacher and disrupting a public school. Williams told WSB-TV Channel 2 that the teenager was failing her TV Production class. The teacher claims Georgia Thornton visited the school to complain about the girl's treatment and attacked her during the meeting, knocking her to the ground, kicking and punching her and pulling her hair. Williams claims Sequita Thornton joined the attack. “And then she threw the book back and just took me like this and then started flinging me everywhere,” said Williams. Williams said eventually two of her students stepped in and stopped the attack. “It was so scary and it took administration over ten minutes to come to my classroom to assist me,” said Williams. Williams said she is afraid to return to the classroom once her injuries have healed. Sequita Thornton has been allowed to attend classes again. Williams said she is unhappy to now be on worker’s comp and she’s only receiving part of her salary. She also told Channel 2 she wasn’t offered counseling and the school hasn’t responded to her request for a transfer. Officials for the Atlanta Public School System said attacks on teachers are rare and they are investigating the attack on Williams. School system spokesperson Joe Manguno said they are doing everything they can to help Williams through this period. He said the safety and security of students and staff are very important to the district. The head of the local teacher’s union said the school system must remember Williams is the culprit.

I CANNOT believe we have another whack ass story coming from out of Georgia's schools. I used to chastize one of my relatives that moved there because they wanted to opt private over public schooling for their small children. I guess in my naivete I remember when public schools fought academically to be top notch in their districts and shit didn't look like Mad Max Beyond Thunderdome Between this, the teenage firebombers, and the hostage taking 3rd graders I'm wondering can it get any worse? ,

And by the way....BY. THE. WAY...how in the HELL do you fail a goddammded TV production class??? I first started doing photo and film production when I was 20 years old, eyes wide shut with zero experience and the only damn thing you need to learn is how to read, write, make phone calls and invoices ....and they're actually TEACHING CLASSES to show kids how to do this now...and they can't pass??? WTF? Sorry, but that's jacked

So basically, you have a school system in which the head of the teacher's union doesn't know what the word "culprit" means. That speaks volumes. We don’t mourn artists because we knew them. We mourn them because they helped us know ourselves.

It took over ten minutes for the administration to arrive? The teacher in the next room didn't hear the commotion going on? Either the teacher is exaggerating or the school has a very poor response to fights breaking out... a fight potentially lasting for ten minutes is a death sentence in most scenarios. mmm.....mmm....mmmm, damn. Time for that teacher to hire a lawyer.
