I still watch The Real World, but it's starting to become stale It's like seeing the same premise every season. It seems like once those kids move in they just go through the same rituals and routines and shit. They get dressed up, they go out to a club or a bar, get wasted, get into arguments, sometimes get busted by the fuzz, go back to the house and argue some more, maybe bring some company home for some sexy time, and then wake up and regret it. Then they repeat the same cycle.
In the future, I'd like to see a totally anti-social, shut-in type of character on the show. He or she will have no desire to go out. They'll just stay in and read and study and not get caught up in the stupidity of the other housemates. Now that'll be something interesting to see and it'll change the dynamic of the show. I thought this pretty boy in the new cast in Hollywood would be that type. But it turns out he's just an arrogant ass who'd rather spend time combing his hair instead of going out with his housemates. NEW WAVE FOREVER: SLAVE TO THE WAVE FROM THE CRADLE TO THE GRAVE.

I knew Julie Oliver from the first season. Apparently my sister once got into a serious altercation with her after she had tried to pull a racist joke on my sis.
Julie sat in front of my during french year 2. She was nice to me, but that was probably only cause my sis threatened to beat her ass if she wasn't. So, yeah--I never much believe the folks on the show were all that 'real'.

(Does that even still come on? ) He used to work at the video store below my apartment in Cleveland about 10-15 years ago. He waived zillions of dollars in fines for me. I have to say he was pretty genuine on the show. [Edited 4/20/08 21:51pm] Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Co-sign! I gave up right after you (during Philly, I believe). It started when I was about 14 and I loved it, but then I became older than the cast and it just became sad. Making them work together was the first mistake. Still, I have a lot of great memories of that dumb show. Nothing will ever top Season 1, but Miami and Boston were pretty amusing. Road Rules was OK, but in the end it was just hanging on as a feeder for the Challenges. The Challenges were the last things I stopped watching, because I loved seeing my old favorites (especially Dan Setzer from RR Northern Trail, my favorite cast member). I bet the show survives on new, younger viewers each season rather than loyal return viewers. There will always be kids to whom this sort of setup is innovative and exciting. After a season or two they get bored, and some younger crowd comes to replace them. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

I was oddly attracted to him.

I always liked season 1 best b/c the people seemed a little older, more grounded, had less silly issues & definitely weren't following THE "real world script" like they all to do today. There was (or seemed to be) less playing to the camera, less role taking (I'm the bitch of the house!), it actually seemed experimental @ that time

That's the only way for them to survive - the kids are always gonna identify w/ their own generation & think they're the coolest shit happening, so that show can literally go on forever

In retrospect, you gotta love that Steven (can't remember the city, but the one w/ the Lyme disease chick) thought he was fooling everyone pretending to be straight & proceeded to do the following: *held his dick like a macho man saying "fuck you!" when the Lyme disease chick accused him of being gay... *threw her teddy bear over a banister into the water but called out to her first to make sure she saw it happen... *ran up to her moving car, opened the door & slapped her in the bitchiest way possible... *shows up to the MTV Real World Awards w/ his boyfriend who looks EXACTLY like him . I just remembered one of my last favorite moments:
On the Chicago season, one girl (Cara?) was portrayed to be something of a slut. During one scene when she was getting with another random guy, they played David (from New Orleans) singing "C'mon Be My Baby Tonight" (his rip-off of "Luck Be a Lady"). You know, the one where he's "scatting" in the beginning: Zwee-da-dum zwee-da-dum zwee Zwee-da-dum zwee-da-dum zwee-ee-ee-ee C'mon be my baby tonight C'mon be my baby tonight I've seen the way you treated other thugs you've been with C'mon be my baby tonight I gotta give up to the editors on that one. I damn near choked from laughing so much! "Whitney was purely and simply one of a kind." ~ Clive Davis

Seson two is by far light years better than last season!!! You CANNOT use the name of God, or religion, to justify acts of violence, to hurt, to hate, to discriminate- Madonna

over the weekend, i saw the first episode of the new season. i HATED everyone who was introduced. HATED.
usually, even if they're all a bunch of vapid kens and barbies, at least ONE of them will have some kind of redeeming characteristic or quirk. not these sexbots. i'd totally watch the real world this season if they let an authentic 70-year-old hobo live with them.

It was actually interesting. They all had individual lives and jobs outside of the house, but they still lived together and interacted. Remember the time they played a trick on Kevin because he was never around? They all played different roles at dinner and he was really confused. Good times, good times... I feel so old whenever I watch the Real World. I can't relate to these youngins anymore. I think the last one I could relate to was the Back to New York cast. I don't like that the show seems so sexually charged. I don't mind seeing sex as long as it's real and not some dumb hoochie looking for her camera time. Mtv thinks that is what young people want to see and maybe it is. In an online poll, the Austin cast won for best season I'm sure that most of the people voting weren't even alive when the first season came out.
I do love me some Real World/Road Rules challenges. Shake it til ya make it
