After putting it off for years I have to have oral surgery tomorrow morning, which would be fine if I didn't have to get a fucking IV.

tell me they aren't that bad and that I won't start shrieking, someone? please?

If so, you'll be so damned high you won't even know what's going on. They had to keep me awake cause they feared dislocating my jaw or some shit. I also had a nerve that ran between two of my roots, so they had to be very careful not to cut it lest I loose all sensation to the bottom right side of my face

The surgery ain't bad. Whether you're "under" or they keep you awake, you'll be high, and not really aware of what is going on.

If I recall they had already started running the IV-drugs into me before they used local anesthesia on my mouth. It caused me to be numb the rest of the day.
I was eating hamburgers by the 3rd day though

You'll be sore. It wasn't so bad for me. But my friend lenny actually had his face swell and bruise--it depends on who you are.

I personally didn't find it too bad. I didn't much care for the taste of the healing process though--salty and metallic. Gross!

They're going to run an IV in you first that provides the electro-lite fluids or whatever the fuck that is. It doesn't really hurt at all--but is kidn of annoying knowing that stuff is being pumped into you while you're wide awake.

Then they place the stuff in you that knocks you out. it hurts just a little as it feels cold going into your hand.
But within seconds you're in la la land

I've taken massive dumps that hurt more and lasted longer.

The worse that can happen is they might have to remove bits of your tongue to accommodate the surgery, but it usually fully grows back with a bit of scarring in a year's time.

Laurel--an IV is a piece of cake. Dan's right, the fluid feels cold. I mean it pinches going in, but really you'll be fine.

If she doesn't use the consonant "s" or vowel "e" a lot, she should be fine for a year. And of course, the ability to taste sweet and sour sensations will return within 6 months.

U will be fine.....a iv is nothing ....and u shouldn't feel much of anything with ur teeth.....
Just make sure u ask them to pack the area so u don't get dry socket and end up puking when u get home

I hate IV's too--I will spare my story again, but my advice is to not watch them, not look at it after it's done, and try to think about something else while they are doing it. Maybe they could let you listen to music? (Or the phone is a good idea, but will you be able to get reception?)

You'll be fine, it's not as bad as you are probably thinking (the IV, that is--I never had wisdom teeth removed) but I still hate it and wouldn't want to have another one.
