Note is the monthly payment, tags are the stickers you put on your license plates that show your car is up to date w/ the dmv, has had smog, etc. You pay for your tags once a year...

Like I said, I'm a young man, which instantly makes my insurance ridiculous. If I had a claim, it'd be unaffordable.

I was young once. My insurance rates were never that high. Not even close.

If I lived in another province where insurance wasn't privatized, it wouldn't be that high, but the stats aren't in my favour, so I just have to suck it up.

sigh.

When you buy a car that you can't pay for in cash because it's too expensive, most people don't pay cash for cars, newer ones at least. You'd get a loan from a bank - the note is a payment agreement to pay off the car in 3 to 5 years @ a certain amount per month.

I've done a few budgets for a handful of people over the past few months and the one element that constantly jumped out at me was the monthly cost of owning a car. On average this is what I've seen:
Car note: $395.00 month
Car insurance $110.00 month
Gasoline: $324.00 month
Parking pass: $ 65.00 month
Misc maintence: $83.00 month (based on $1,000 year in maintence)
Car tags $20.83 month ($250 tags over 12 months)

That is an average of $997.83 month 2 own a car. What the hell.....

lets see:

just bought tires 360.00 (once ever 2 years)

monthly

no car note my car is a 2001 Camry
220.00 gas a month
100.00 a month for car insurance (full coverage)
car washes 40.00
360.00 a month...OUCH!!!
Say it's just a dream...
U open up ur eyes and come 2 realize
u simply imagined this
So u lean over and give her a kiss
Here on earth, here on earth,
with u it's not so bad
Here on earth, here on earth
eye don't feel so sad
Stay right here
