Right now I am so furious and sick and I need some serious advice and help. The phone call I got from my son at Ft. Hood last night when we talked for an hour? I thought everything was cool. NOT!!! Later on I received another call from my son, who initially was not going to tell me wtf was going on. He knew I'd recently been hospitalized with cancer and a blood clot, which I told no one about but Ivy, and my son did not want to upset me.

This was my son when he went into the Army @ 18...against my wishes, but he made the decision on his own.



And this is my son as of yesterday after being jumped on by 10 of his fellow soldiers.







He went across Ft Hood to his friends barracks. He said he was just going to visit his friend who joined the Army with him, and these guys were drinking and sitting around, and one of them said my son "looked" at him funny. Then threw a beer can at my son. My son, Gabriel, picked it up and threw it back, and all 10 of these idiots jumped at once. They were ALL WHITE!!! So, I'm wondering if it was racially motivated.

He says they also jumped someone else the same day. Is this some sort of fucking gang or something???? He says when the MP's came they all ran. Gabriel told me they are conducting an investigation. But I'm not waiting for that. This is bullshit. Of course I know my son, and there's probably more to the story, but even so, 10 guys jumping on one is fucked up.

He said they had to do a CAT scan, and he thinks his jaw is fractured because he can't eat. He's also having bad headaches. He doesn't even remember if he was unconscious.

WTF kind of army do we have where soldiers jump on each other??? I mean, I can see a fight every now and then, one on one, or even two on one, but 10 damned soldiers jumping on one of their own????? What the fuck happened to honor????

I need advice...I know renegade is in the military, and I'd like to know what the best course of action is. Who should I contact? His CO? All I know is I am calling that base tomorrow and someone better tell me something. I am raising so much fucking hell. I know my son is a man, but fuck this. He could have been killed. I'm sitting here thinking..."Oh, as long as they don't send him to Iraq, he'll be ok..." YEAH RIGHT....

He's not even safe on his own damned base???? I'm so glad he took pics, and I told him to take some more. I just need to know what I CAN do. Since he is 18, can I do anything???? I want to press charges on these cowardly fucking bastards. I mean, I'm thinking the Army might tell Gabriel NOT to say anything or try to get some action taken. So, what are my options? Can he get leave to come home???

Please, all I ask from y'all is not to lump us all into the circle with the idiots that did this to their brother in arms...but sadly, this is something that happens almost every weekend on every post throughout the Army....mix alcohol with some dumb-ass behavior or deep seeded issue and BAM!! If you look into it, Ft. Hood, TX has had numerous issues with gang related and racist behavior in the recent past....Ft. Bragg, NC had the famous cases at the beginning of the war....Ft. Campbell, KY had the case of the troop who was murdered (bludgeoned with a baseball bat) by a drunk buddy because he was gay...it pisses me off because for 15 years I have done my best...as have 99% of my mates....to be the embodiment of what a Soldier is supposed to be...and it gets undone by assholes like the ones I've mentioned above....and several others that can't seperate themselves from stupid behavior...

April, I am so sorry for your son...I hope that he recovers and does well...my suggestion at this point (on top of my longwinded orgnote) is that as soon as possible, push his command to get him transferred from Ft. Hood...

And thank you so much for the "long" orgnote. You don't know how much I appreciate the advice. There's nothing worse than feeling helpless and ignorant. I do remember the case in KY. They made a movie about that case. Sad.

This is horrible. Do you have pictures with the date on them (they're here and that's a good permanent record). Would there be any point in getting an attorney or does it have to be handled through the Military? I cannot imagine how difficult this is for both of you. I'm hoping your physical problems are under control ~ this surely can't help. My blood pressure would be through the roof.

As being in the military myself, I would suggest your son contacting his First Sergeant or office supervisor or flight chief and go from there.

From there, I am sure they will involve security forces and Office of Special Investigations.

I am sure the answer will come out on what exactly happened.

First of all, I am sorry that this has happened to your son and I truely hope that those responsible will be put to justice for their misconduct/crimes.

Good grief. This points out so much about everything this country is standing for. Republicans will be the first to scream about how Clinton dismantled the military and yet in 8 years they have done absolutely nothing to build it up. Nothing to give the troops the resources they need, both to fight a war and to recover when they come back home from that hellhole. I mean I am sure the racist attitudesds were very likely present but exascerbated by a culture that won't even acknowledge that men and women are coming back from Iraq as broken people.

Honey, make sure you pursue this to the end and don't let assurances or promises tide you over. Make sure, within reason according to your health, that these guys are punished for this crap. And transfering him to another base is a good idea but it shouldn't end there. The culture of the military needs to change
