My computer died this weekend I need hugs!! My mac G5 desktop died this weekend. It would not power up so I took it in to get the once over. Got a call today, Logic Board!!!??? To the tune of $853.00. i am not going to get it repaired. For that price I could order another. I have only had it for five years  My underwear lasts longer. To make matters worse, my applecare plan expired Dec. 2007
time to move on  ---------------------------------

yup it was me I was in the middle of backing up and it froze, restarted OK then froze again, subsequent restarts failed. It happened Thursday March 27, out of applecare by one year, machine was only 4 years old.
I didn't fix it, got a macpro now, which I had to spend my children's inheritance to buy. Now of course my apple studio display does not plug into the new machine without a $179 DVI adaptor  so I got a viewsonic lcd monitor instead with a 3 year warranty.

This is actually a bit scary. I've had a number of issues with my laptop, ALL fixed for free under Apple Care. But my plan also expired -- in March! 
I'm thinking about buying another machine now, before this one leaves me unexpectedly in a bind. Ὅσον ζῇς φαίνου

Interesting. One of my G4's and a G3 laptop died about a year ago. I don't know if it was the board or the power supply. I'm still using 2 G3's I purchased 10 plus years ago. Both are going strong. | |
