slow computer I tried a couple of programs to speed up my computer, but nothing works. It keeps freezing and I have to click ctrl alt delete. I just click the box and everything moves again. I've been doing this for weeks now....could this be a virus?

I have the same problem here, and I´ve tried lots of things, including anti-spyware programs that search and destroy spyware, anti-virus programs and cleaning up space by deleting old data that I no longer need, and cleaning the cookies and internet data folder occasionally but nothing really helped.
I also looked for advice on the net since I am a computer idiot who knows VERY little about computers but the advice I found didn´t really help much. A friend of mine , who really knows a lot about computers, told me he had the same problems from time to time ( though one would think he knows what to do about it ) and he told me it makes sense to totally clean your computer every now and then, erase everything, and re-format since it is pretty normal that even the best computers slow down after a certain amount of time due to too much data and software clutter that accumulated over time. Maybe some of the org´s computer wizards can help you, I have always received a great deal of advice and help on the org, so just wait a bit. Try deleting stuff/pics/programs you don't need.
Go to My Computer > Local Disk (c: )> right click it > Properties > Disk Cleanup. ^ That can help too. [Edited 4/12/08 7:04am]

Try downloading ccleaner. It's free and it cleans your computer of all the junk. It works great.

Open your task manager
Go to processes, Check if its one of your programs is slowing it down? Mabye one program is useing too much CUP or too much Mem Usage if you notice your CPU is stuck at 99 (on one of the programs) and stays that way, and or has a high Mem usage That might indicate if its a certain program or not Kind of hard to explaine
