It's a thundersnowstorm!

It's been slushing all day, non-stop. They call it a "wintery mix". It's rain and sleet and snow and there's about 2 inches of slush on everything. It's gonna turn to snow overnight.

But I just heard a big thunder clap! omfg I don't think I've ever heard thunder during a snowstorm!

What strange weather phenomenon have you encountered lately? smile

This may seem shamelessy self-promoting, but you should seriously post this info on Orgers Without Borders, in case any of the folks there might be impacted by this so-called thundersnowstorm..

neutral I am in northwestern Iowa right now and I am supposed to fly into Minneapolis tomorrow afternoon on my way back to New York. It has been freezing rain and super windy all day today. I am hoping that I do not get stuck! pray Have you heard anything on the news about weather related delays at the airport?

I was thinking if I make it to MSP I will be able to get to New York, it may be late but I feel like I'll get there. If I can't get to Minneapolis, then I'm screwed. And I *have* to be at work on Saturday...

Haven't paid attention, but I would say yes, you can expect delays. It's yucky out there. At least it's above freezing out, so it's not a big sheet of ice on the ground.

Thanks for the quick answer. I'm flying into LaGuardia so I expect delays even when the weather is perfect, but I'm just really hoping that I get into NY on Friday, regardless of how late. I cannot fly in on Saturday morning--I will be late for my tour and be in very, very big trouble.

Yeah we had something like 25 centimetres of really really wet snow because it has been fairly warm outside but cold enough to be snow...

and lots of it, pelting your car...

clean off your car, and by the time you have circled your car, the other side needs to be brushed off again.

crazy.

it is supposed to be room temperature outside on Sunday though.

OK and I don't know about y'all but... the forecast as of WEDNESDAY said nothing to the actual effect of what the weather on Thursday turned out to be. Even yesterday morning the radio weatherman was all "but don't worry about the snow, it will warm up today and melt" and we have had days where it did that.

Well the snow is still sitting there this morning. neutral

It's really not though, that's the weirdest part...just SUPER windy. Looking at the radar though, the whole area (several states even...) is under this mess.
I'm still not leaving the house though. They even cancelled mail service.

I was hoping to see you guys on here to find out how Mpls was faring. biggrin
