Wanted: Room for rent — and a new life — in Minneapolis After looking for a job in Minneapolis for nearly 4 months via Monster and CareerBuilder to no avail (businesses ONLY want locals!), I've decided to embark on that time-honored American tradition of just...going. In the immortal words of The Doors, "The time to hesitate is through."
So to my Minneapolis-based friends, I issue the following plea: Does anyone have a room that they would rent for a few months to an ambitious, pound-the-pavement type of man who has wanted to move to Minneapolis for a while now? I've lived in Toledo for four years, working as the editor to a publishing firm, overseeing four separate publications. I've gone as far as I can go in the company, and there are few — if any — other media prospects in this region. I've wanted to move to Minneapolis for about six months now, due to the fact that the city is considered the arts Mecca of the Midwest, there are many large companies (particularly MEDIA companies) headquartered there, I don't mind the cold (lived in Washington state and Michigan!) ... and frankly, where else is a guy with two Prince-related tattoos supposed to go? So I'm going to do it. My goal is to be there by early/mid-June. I'm still looking for a job via the Internet, but due to my 14+ years of media experience, I highly doubt I'll have trouble finding good work once I'm there. But this is where Someone Out There comes in... 1) I need a place to stay for maybe 2-3 months while I get on my feet. I'm coming out there with around $4000, so I can pay rent and keep up with my bills. 2) You will NOT KNOW I'M THERE! During the day, I will be out and about, looking for work. I've always been a great tennant and lodger wherever I've been. 3) I'm willing to pay $200 a month for decent living quarters. I'm not above sleeping on a sofa or an air mattress. So...there it is. Is there anyone out there who is kind-hearted enough to put up a Toledo refugee for a few months? I gotta get outta here, get on with my life ... and find a job and a city that doesn't make me put "Count the Days" on repeat every day I'm at the office (I'm not kidding). And thank you in advance!

Hey you. I don't currently know of anyone with room, but I'll keep my eyes open. And good for you. Keep looking. |

Best of luck to you. That's how I made my Southern move: a car, a week's worth of business clothes, my two favorite guitars and an amp.

Best of luck to you. Moving to another state with nothing lined up (for work) is a tough situation. "Half of what I say is meaningless; but I say it so that the other half may reach you." - Kahlil Gibran
