I am someone who desperately needs quiet time, to the point I can't imagine living with someone really.

I was thinking the same thing...I am really quite quiet, and I can't stand people that need every second of the day to be filled with conversation mad
If you will, so will I

Anxiety

you know, i don't think it's a male/female thing.

some people may disagree, but i think it's more of a personality type than a kind of behavior that manifests in one gender over another.

i've known MORE than my fair share of men who CAN NOT SHUT UP (seriously. they simply CAN. NOT. SHUT. UP. mad )

and i've known a lot of female friends with whom i have shared much-appreciated companionable silences - particularly female roommates.

this personality type used to plague me for YEARS, because i never knew how to fend them off or how to find a spot in the conversation (i.e., THEIR MONOLOGUE) for me to say, "umm, i need some quiet time now, kbye"...

...although i *DID* have a co-worker once to whom i had to say "i need you to quit talking to me because you've been talking for almost an hour and my ears literally HURT." but my ears DID hurt! she literally almost talked my ears off my head! lol

i don't know how i've done it, but i've gotten good at the art of "deflecting". that is, finding a vague/graceful "out" from situations when chatty cathies or gabby garies try to corner me. maybe i'll allow for a few comments, then i'll be like "okay, well, that's cool. i have to go make a call/run some errands/brainstorm for better excuses, catch you later."

if you do this often enough, i've found that the chatty-holics will eventually get the signal and find some other poor victim to blather at for hours. they won't catch on quickly, but they will catch on eventually.

or you could abandon all tact and say what i said to an ex-boyfriend: "man, you TALK TOO MUCH." redface

either way, good luck. smile

I know I posted something jokingly before, although the second part of my post was serious.

But, I am shy and very quiet in person. I absolutely LOVE being alone. I eat out alone often. I will go to the park or lake and sit and read alone. I do have friends, and I love to go out to the clubs and talk about stupid stuff, but I would rather go to the movies alone, because I HATE going to the movies with anyone who wants to talk to me during the movie.

I used to go with my girlfriend, Pam. The last movie we went to together was Sin City. She talked through the entire movie. Whispering questions in my ear. grrrrr...that irks me to death. We don't go to the movies together anymore.

Funny that my ex used to get pissed because I "wouldn't" talk. razz Maybe talking too much for either sex is a sign of insecurity. shrug

Pussy lol

Just say something, if you don't get it off your chest you'll freak out on her for the littlest thing and then feel bad.

lol it's not even his wife, he doesn't have to admit to shit! They'll both be on their ways in no time and then the person who has sex with this woman will go back to be the guy who has to listen.

But it's clearly bothering him. If something or someone is bothering me I don't hold back. Or I suck it up and don't talk about it. shrug
