Holy Frack! [Click to enlarge] That’s really all I can say after watching the season premiere of “Battlestar Galactica” season 4. Seriously, if you've been thinking the show has lost its way or if you're wondering how they’d get out of the jam the season finale left them in….take a deep breath and relax. I’m here to calm your fears. The premiere is not only one of the best episodes they’ve done, but it sets up a final season that’s sure to be loaded with tons more questions and even more answers. As most of you know, I hate spoilers. I despise people that take pride in ruining the enjoyment of a show or a movie just because they’ve seen something first. So I won’t do it here. You can read my thoughts and the others in this article without worrying that it’ll ruin the show. Here’s the background. Sci-fi sent me a screener of the premiere and since Kenny and Amanda (great Collider writers) are into the show as well, we all watched it together in my apartment the other night. The first thing I want to tell you that’s very important is…watch this episode in HD! I don’t know if any cable companies carry sci-fi in HD…but I know Directv does. And holy frack do you need to see some of this episode in HD. Let’s just say there are some action scenes. So if you know anyone who has sci-fi HD, drive to their house. You’ll be very happy you did. Anyway, about the premiere. Minor, minor spoil coming…The show starts off right where the finale ended. So if you’re curious how the show would deal with what happened at the end of the finale, they take on the issue of a Cylon attack head on and the way they deal with it is perfect. I hate when finale’s set up a major event and then the premiere sort of shuffles the problem under the rug. Not Battlestar. And not this episode. The beginning is holy frack and it almost never stops. While I do have an issue or two towards the end of the episode, the way the show sets up the season is great, and I do think this final season could be the best yet as they have no reason to hold back…it’s all ending so hopefully there won’t be any wasted storylines. Look, no matter what I say here you’re all going to tune in tomorrow night on Sci-fi. All you really need to know is “Battlestar Galactica” is back to the level that caused many people to say it’s one of the best shows on television. And for some more spoiler free thoughts on the premiere….here’s Kenny, followed by Amanda. Written by Kenny Fischer So much drama in the BSG... I assume I can spoil the hell out of season three and that's what I'm about to do. The last ten minutes of Crossroads Part 2 blew our minds. We found out that three characters we love (and one character we're indifferent about) were Cylons. Then Kara came back. She wasn't dead and her ship wasn't...exploded. Whatthefuck? If that wasn't enough, a swarm of Cylon ships were about to attack Galactica and the fleet. That's a cliffhanger. Luckily, I saw that episode three weeks ago. Most of you have been waiting a year for this... ...and you can breathe a sigh of relief because the episode delivers. Battlestar seasons have always started well so I wasn't surprised. I like where they're going with each of the plot threads. I'm not going to spoil anything from the premiere, but I will say you'll dig how they're handling the new four Cylons, the Cylon Jesus (AKA Baltar), and Kara's return. The episode opens with a hell of an action scene and I was happy that it was both visceral and that it wasn't too big. Otherwise we'd have to deal with ten episodes of guys sitting in rooms to make up for it. Thanks for being budget conscious, Mr. Moore. I want to watch the rest of the season in one sitting, but I guess I'll have to watch an hour a week like the rest of America. DVD box sets have spoiled me. I'm really excited to see what's next. With The Wire gone, Battlestar and Lost are the best shows on TV. Let's hope this season fires on all cylinders. It sure looks like it will. Written by Amanda This first episode of Battlestar's final season is stellar (nauseatingly bad pun intended). Seriously, this is one solid piece of storytelling. Any fan of the show won't be bored for a second. It's at times heartfelt, sometimes hilarious, often intense--just the right mix for this show. Above all, though, it's always engaging. It leaves me with a warm, gooey feeling inside knowing that these folks in the writers' room are taking this story in a very cool, badass direction. There's not much to say about the episode that wouldn't give something away. Definitely expect some beautiful special effects. As usual, there are some mysterious things afoot that will not yet be explained. Baltar's up to his old tricks, blah blah. Since the last episode of Season 3 had a surprise visit from good ol' Kara Thrace at the end, I don't think it's too much of a spoiler if I mention she's in the premiere as well. Although what exactly that will mean for the human race remains to be seen. And ya'll know there's a whole lot of Christian allegory going on here, right? Just throwing that out there. Loved It, The first 7 minutes before the credits, was just stunningly beautiful. I really have no clue how they get such amazing effects for a basic cable sci fi show??? Boggles my mind.
The Red Eye thing was totally hot. The fake shot was just played enough to be like OMG....no they couldn't do that.....ohhh thank the gods. I'm liking how they are setting up this season's conflict already. Gonna be an amazing ride. WOOHOO!!! K I have to say this if you can find a HDTV version, if you don't have HDTV or Receiver, but a flat screen monitor, download it and watch. The space scenes are truly amazing.

I got wood. I get it in HD and the 1st battle was awesome. I think the episodes on scifi.com are HD versions for those that don't get scifi in HD.
