I wonder if the teacher was a really mean teacher and they felt that they had been tormented enough and in their little 9 year old minds they felt this is what they had to do. I highly doubt this is just about some student getting in trouble for standing on a chair.

I'm not excusing their intended behaviour or saying that the teacher was being horrible is the case...just saying that I think there is a lot more to this story.

It's weird, just yesterday I was talking to a co-worker about teachers who hate kids yet teach. We were reminiscing about certain teachers we had that were just horrible to us.

I am not excusing their behavior either but like you say their could possibly be more to this story than they are saying.
And there are mean teachers out there my daughter recently was humiliated in front of her whole class by one of her teachers. Which lead me to think why is this man teaching if he finds it right to humiliate one of his students???

Dance

There was a time where if a kid even looked at their teacher wrong, their parents, neighbors, the bus driver, the man at the liquor store, the neighbors dog, and the neighbor's baby would be waiting for them after school with a belt.

I know there are mean teachers. I had quite a few. But, if these kids had time to plan all this, then why not go to a parent and tell them the teacher was being abusive? What on earth made them think they could actually carry this out?

the town where this happened is about 45 minutes from where I live...it's a scary story, really...and there is more to blame than just a bunch of bad ass kids...first of all, even a lot of veteran teachers do not have control of their classrooms anymore...very little discipline is administered at school, especially at this paticular grade level...another thing, some parents are becoming less concerned with the things their children are exposed to at home...tv, internet, music, etc...
my son is in third grade as well...we had him moved to another class earlier this year because his teacher had no control of the classroom...look, if my son, one of the most irresponsible kids on the planet, says he can't concentrate in class; then there is definately a problem ...wether it's new teachers without the experience to deal with rowdy students or veteran teachers whose hands are tied because of how they're limited to discipline, the problem is becoming more widespread and stories like this will become commonplace...

That's the type of kids I teach! But mine are 14!!!!!
And bigger than me.... sad

I shouldn't say I hate my job.... I don't I really do love it....but dealing with these f'ed up kids is so draining.

And one of my emotionally disturbed boys is mad at me because he was punished for an outburst last week and he told me today the only reason he hasn't tried this yet is because he don't wanna go to jail. bheart

There are crazy kids in any grade, it's part of the job. When you decide you want to teach special education you know what you are getting into. sigh

Well how's the no spanking thing working out for people now?

Kids don't respect their parents or any adults apparently. All my mom would have to do is give me the look to know an ass beating was coming if I didn't straighten up.

Teachers as well could take a kid into the hallway with a paddle and while I didn't like it when it happened to me, it seems necessary just to get the respect from the authority figures.

I've heard all of the arguments about teaching the kids violence and blah, blah, blah but all they need to do is turn on the television to get exposed to that. This is about having respect for the adult and these kids all need their little asses beat.

nod thumbs up! There's a big difference between discipline and abuse. And fear of being popped in da mouf can go a long way.

Thank you. Just seeing my dad's belt hanging in the closet kept me from doing too much dumb sh!t. Nothing wrong with a little old skool discipline.

Ahhh.... he's just a punk. I think he could get mad and hit me, I've had kids do that before, one even did knock me out once, years ago, ( I was trying to stop him from hanging himself in the bathroom) but I don't have any real fear of this particular kid.

Kids just dont think sometimes, they think they can get away with it and dont think of the cosequences if caught
There can be many reasons why these kids did not go to their parents and if the teacher had any wrong doing in this matter hopefully appropriate action will be taken with her. Luckily this did not get to the point that it could have, the kids were caught on time and hopefully they get the help they need that will prevent them from ever even thinking of planning something like this again nod

Exactly...and nobody is there for them.

Nobody teaches kids right from wrong anymore. No one is there to police what kind of media they have access too. Porn, violence.... they've seen it all by age 10.And they behave like it's like A Clockwork Orange in the playgrounds. I'm not being dramatic, this is what I know to be true. Teachers can only do so much. God, fear for the future.

Be glad if that's ALL they do. My friend is a principal at an elementary school in NYC and 6 months ago a parent attacked her and 2 other officials because the 3 or 4 kids that were attending the school were being abused and child protective services had told my friend not to release the kids to the mother when she arrived. So of course, a fight broke out and my friend's jaw was broken. The fruit don't fall too far from the tree and I DO fear for the future. disbelief sigh

You're absulutely right about this. I have another friend who is a principal of an elementary school here in Dallas and the stories he tells me of hoochie mama mamas that are 13-15 years older than their kids make my head hurt. disbelief Also, last year his school was in the news because a 3rd grader was passing out blow jobs like lollipops at recess. It's a DAMN shame what goes on nowadays. Makes me not want to have kids at all.
