Bangkok is fine. I haven't noticed any crazy nightlife crackdown, but it's impossible to smoke virtually anywhere now except at home. I suppose it's a good thing in some ways since it's helping me quit, but there's no smoking walking down the street, no smoking in nearly all bars, restaurants and whatnot, even if they're open air. 2000 baht fine if you get caught.

Yep, people were reporting on thaivisa.com getting caught and fined just walking in the park smoking, and that was before the ban was officially in place. Obviously out in the sticks you're ok walking down the street, but not in the city. Restaurants out here make you go round back too. Gulliver's has a small area where the old side entrance steps were.

Yeah, they seem to be going after the farangs a bit more, though whether some of it is down to tourists just not being aware of the changes, I don't know. I think I told you about the time I came out of Gulliver's and Mon called a taxi while I was still smoking. I looked up at a policeman there as I walked towards the taxi and held up the cigarette and he gestured to throw in on the ground and stamp it out, so though I don't like to do it that's exactly what I did.

This government inherited a turd from Sonthi and it's not getting any better. Prices of food and drink are going up quite steadily. The changes are just a few baht here and there, but percentage-wise a beer from the supermarket going up from 44 to 48 baht is quite an increase when you're talking about just a few months. Three limes for 20 baht? Not so long ago they were about 2 baht each.
