Yes I do. But more so, I just don't feed the life and spreadable disease of injustice.

If more people just would not feed such acts or "go along" with... for whatever reason... being weak, fear of someone not "liking" you or just wanting to be accepted... or perhaps ones mind is just pure evil (they do exist)... it begins somewhere, it is born at some time/point, it is fed in so many ways. More people, more problems. Walk alone if you must, be real and be a good person... don't play the part or get infected by injustice. Make a difference in the world, for the good.

Throughout history there have been many times when one group of persons has been put down by another, it happened long ago and it happens today...whether it be because of national origin, religion, disability, sexual orientation, race or colour. Sometimes messed up stuff happens right here on the org....who here makes it a point to take a stand and why? If you never take a stand...please share your thinking on that as well.

I always take a stand....RIGHT IS RIGHT AND MUST BE CONTINUALLY PERPETUATED!!

I've tried to for years and the time has come to give up. If you try to stand up for what you think is right, you get called "too serious" hypersensitive" or "party pooper". I want to be like a lot of other people and care about what celebrities are wearing today.

Teacher

People used to tell me I have a problem keeping my mouth shut, and they'd get embarrassed when I spoke up when shit happened whenever - racist shit, gaybashing etc. Well I CAN'T keep my mouth shut and I won't, ever. Like Serious said, Hitler managed to become what he did because people kept their mouths shut. I have friends of every colour and sexual orientation. I'll defend them and everybody else always.

Most of the time, yes, I think I do. The times I don't are when I feel doing so would be unsafe for me.

Some of my cousins use derogatory words or will tell me "funny" jokes that are offensive. I usually just say "I don't think that's funny at all. rolleyes" and let it go. I think sometimes they do it just to get a rise out of me, so I refuse to play their game. Plus, I see them so infrequently that it's not worth it to cause 'trouble' at the holidays. If I feel like being a little sassy, I'll tell a story about doing something in New York with as many things (e.g. types of people) in it as possible to make them feel uncomfortable. smile

But I'll offer up an opinion here and there. I like pointing out when folks carelessly use the word "midget" that it's actually considered a derogatory term by little people. But please, little people, if I don't stand up for you in a thread, don't think it's cause I hate you no no no!.

I do that sometimes when people use the word "gypped". nod (I usually point out that that phrase is basically the Gypsy equivalent of saying, "I Jewed someone down." no no no!

You would not be you if you were one of those ppl that did not care about the important things.
I know what you mean though.... some days I wish I could live in a dream world. I tend to call it la la land.

hmm...let me see how to answer this as honestly as possible...do I always take a stand??

no...

I choose my battles...I rarely argue here or in real life...I have no time or patience for that...generally speaking, arguing doesn't change anything or anybodys mind...I find it better to let folks know where I stand, that way if a line is crossed, folks knew they were gonna cross it with me and will not be surprised by my lack of respect for them...I deal with folks everyday that have the most outlandish mentalities and say the most ignorant shit...if I took a stand everytime I was around 'em, I'd get nothing else done...in my own way, my form of "taking a stand" is if a person says or supports something completely ignorant, they will know by my lack of response, body language or non-confrontational yet condescending response that I could give a fuck less about them or their mindest...

don't get me wrong, there are/have been times where I was very vocal about an injustice...I've lost a job because of it...I don't regret it...like Dex said, "Right Is Right"...and speaking up for what is right is never a bad thing, no matter the consequence...

the only problem I see with folks always taking a stand is that while you're always speaking against what is wrong and injust, you may be missing out on what is right and just...I applaud anyone who speaks out for truth and equality but I hope they take time to realize for all that is wrong in our world, there is a lot thats right and it's worth celebrating and recognizing...

I also found the Eddie Murphy "Delirious" appreciation thread a bit weird cause of the homophobic content throughout his early material---sure we can brush it off as joking, but to insinuate that gay = AIDS, and normal contact = contracting the disease, was terribly irresponsible, and not funny in the least to me.

But my crowning acheivement was defending single, hard working, professional men from the all those angry self-agrandizing stay-at-home mothers out for blood. That shit was the toughest thing I've ever had to do on the org.

you know, in the spirit of offering up an opinion or two i'd like to share the fact that i felt your thread about dust mites was more than a little bit speciesist.

oh, sure, i laughed like the others when you posted it but the more i sat around and brooded on it the angrier i became and by now, well, i'm hopping mad. it was unjust and i'm taking my stand.

how could you be so unkind? dust mites have to live too, you know. just because they do not have opposable thumbs like us doesn't mean that aren't valid little life forms.

I have a feeling I may have to stand up in the face of injustice at my job by the end of the week about some bullshit that I'm unwittingly part of (or created?!) by taking a kid to the emergency room.

wtf.

I'll start a thread if something happens. I might even start one anyway.
