Crazy Azz City, 10 shot in 10 hours

10 injured in series of N.O. shootings

08:32 PM CDT on Monday, March 24, 2008

WWLTV.com

Ten people were shot, one of whom was killed, during an especially violent period of less than 12 hours in New Orleans that began Sunday night around 10 o’clock.

Video: Watch the Story Spokesman Joe Narcisse said New Orleans police believe that the five shooting incidents all started as arguments and that none of the five were related to one another, meaning that five separate arguments all ended up in shootings.

"This calls us to look deeply not only into the system, not only into what the NOPD is doing, or what the DA's office or the public defenders are doing, but into our own communities, our churches, our schools and our homes,” said Baty Landis, a co-founder of Silence is Violence.

The violent spree began Sunday around 10 p.m. when someone was shot near the intersection of Pine and Washington. Three people were shot outside of Club Fabulous on North Claiborne and then three more on North Hennessey. Police believe those victims were targeted after leaving a skating rink.

Two people were shot on I-10 while changing a tire on the side of the road - one of those victims died - and finally, around 8 a.m., a woman was shot in the head in the 6000 block of St. Roch. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening.

Six of the ten victims were under 21 years of age

Is this still fall out from the floods? Presumably poverty is still a problem - of course it is all forgotten in the run up to the elections.

We've had numerous shootings in Toronto recently. Nothing new unfortunately. Just thugs shooting each other not giving a shit who else gets caught in the crossfire.

wonder how many of those shootings were in someway related....Savannah, Georgia has a ridiculous amount of crime...more often than not, multiple shootings similar to this occur and are usually either the same gunmen or retaliation shootings, either way, it's all a lil' too ridiculous...the whole 'live by the gun, die by the gun' mentality is alive and well in most places and thats just sad/pathetic...
