COUNTRY LIVING...DO YOU LIVE IN THE DEEP COUNTRY OR CITY? I LOVE THE BEST OF BOTH WORLDS

I was born and grew up in the deep country. Now that I live in the city for business purposes, I ponder back and realize that I love the best of both worlds. Although living in the country has it's disadvantages, as do living in the city, the country life was exciting and simple to live in. Growing up really poor didn't help, but I still had much fun growing up in the country, we made our own fun. I remember chasing neighbors cows and horses back home, growing our own food, plowing fields till sun up to sun down. The only big news we had in the country was if a farmer cow or horse going astray and wondering off because we knew that the whole town will be on the lookout for it. I remember sitting on a haystack and talking to farmers for hours at a time, we both didn't have watches to care about time because we knew the time that it was based on the positioning of the sun in the sky. Farmers are really good at knowing when it's gonna rain, those guys will make good meteorologists! lol. I remember racing through the dirt roads while riding on the back of a truck and then coming home dirty..damn, those were the good days. People in our town never locked their doors, it was common to see people doors and windows wide open even in the middle of the night. We had a real small grocery store named "Jimmy Groceries" that we could buy groceries from, Jimmy was hardly ever there, so people would come in there and get the groceries and write down what they got and leave the money at the counter. But going to a "real" grocery store was a big thing for us because it was about 20 miles away. The way people greeted each other in our town was by saying "howdy, how yer doing?"..in the city that I live in now people don't say anything. I had to adjust myself to living in the city when I came out of the country, but it's all good. I love the best of both worlds. I know this is probably a long and boring thread, but I just wanted to share some stuff with you guys. Peace

Wow, man! I was thinking about starting a thread like this!!! I've lived in the city all my life and now I long for a little peace and quiet! I like to go camping and I love trees, so I've been thinking about moving somewhere just outside a major city to get the best of both worlds. Gotta be close to a major city to catch some good concerts, but I really love trees, mountains and a bit of solitude nowadays.

Sometimes I find myself venturing off into the country side on weekends to get some peace and quiet, I love the feelings of being around the trees, hilltops and mountains, and being alone only with yourslef and your spirit..the city life never could fulfill me like that.

I find this post amusing considering I just got back from a trip to Idaho.

Deep country has its charm but the people who live there drive me insane. I can't stand talking to simpletons. It may seem cute for them to lead such a quaint simple life, but what it all boils down to is they're just plain stupid. They have a very limited vocabulary, a very limited understanding of science, the arts, etc...

I like to be around people who stimulate and challenge me.

LOL, I don't think that all people who live in the deep country is plain stupid. There's definitely distinctions between "simpletons" and someone who grew up in the city, but I wouldn't view "simpletons" as being stupid if they don't stimulate or challege me.

I grew up in a small town in Indiana of less then 2,000 people, with corn fields all the way around. Then this past September I moved to Chicago, which as 2,896,016 for the 2000 census. That is a big difference from what I was living in. There are good things and bad things about both places. For the most part I enjoy the city better, just because there is an endless list of things to do, better jobs, more jobs, etc. When I was living in Indiana there was nothing to do, not good jobs and not very many jobs. I would have to drive atleast 45 minutes to an hour just to have a good job where I could make a decent amount of money. But being in the country also means no bad things happen like shootings, gangs, etc. There is a certian peacefulness that I like to go home to everyonce in awhile. But for the most part I like the city better.

I like the best of both worlds.
Living in the city can be stressful and living in the country can be boring.
Maybe it would be nice to live outside the city
but near the city.

** This is a tongue & cheek remark. I'm well aware there are intelligent people all over the world.

I love both... I grew up in the country and hated it... moved to the city and missed the country... spent time in the city and went back to the country and hated it. Now I think I need to live in the city and have a second home in the country.
