If you can afford Sony, I'd go with that. If not, both Toshiba and LG are good.

I can't go much higher than $600 since I now plan on also buying a smaller one for the spare room.

perhaps don't toss the old one just yet. when my nieces were small
they put a magnet near the tv and turned a whole area green.
eventually it corrected itself. your color bump might do the same
smile still good enough for the spare room.

This is how far back my couch is from the tv. NOt too far because the other side of the room is a dining room.

I did that at work once, ran a magnet over the monitor, ALL over it and then we all shrieked in horror, because it didn't right itself for quite a few days. I thought I was a goner boxed
