no, vanilla bean icecream has flakes of vanilla bean through out it and has a much more intense flavor than french vanilla.

A whole bean. It gets steeped in the milk for 24 hours...left in there while the custard is made (so heated one more time)...and then the seeds are scraped out of it and left in the ice cream.

I use the rinsed and dried pods to make vanilla sugar.

It's pretty tasty. nod

Sometime I'll tell you about the chocolate ice cream that takes three days to make. I can't do it now, though...I can't be writing food porn when I'm at work. lol

French vanilla isn't a type of vanilla; vanilla is just vanilla. French vanilla gets its name because it has a custard base.

confuse Okay, that's the 3rd definition. So that means like Vanilla cream? Thanks everyone for explaining, all I know for sure is that I love almost everything that has a taste of Vanilla wink biggrin .

I should have been clearer when I said "vanilla is just vanilla." Technically, there are about 150 different types of vanilla, but primarily the world just uses two: Tahitian vanilla and Bourbon-Madagascar vanilla. Madagascar is responsible for three-fourths of the world's vanilla. When the ice cream is made with a custard base, it gets labeled French vanilla. The name is exotic, so things get called French vanilla even though it's not a different flavor or type of vanilla.

Okay, thanks. We just use the term "Vanille" and that covers everything biggrin.

It makes me feel bloated and fat. I stay away from it.

I would rather have a nice piece of dark chocolate.
