ive downloaded my tracks to ipod , however my windows media centre indicates more tracks than I know have in itunes although i requested all music folder to be sent to itunes....why could this be, could it be cause i have some tracks in media centre twice for example a particular song on a artists cd and then again on their greatest hits, so in fact its the same song...does itunes only recognize it once? thanks

itunes sees dupes and counts them, there is an option to show dupes in the menu structure.
It is more likely that you have tunes in other folders like downloads etc that WMP sees but as these are not in itunes it does not see them

Try searching your hdd and adding any folders via the file add folder option and itunes will see them
