I think people are just trying to be kind.

Feel blessed that people don't consider you unattractive, Jony. Going through you entire life having people call you "ugly" doesn't feel good at all.

b. this is my philosophy regarding physical appearance as well. i would hardly be considered a work of art and, if one is so inclined to point out superficial shortcomings, my looks would be quite easy to knock. what i've come to understand is that, if one takes a moment, there truly is something physically attractive - some real aspect of beauty - to be found in everyone, be it their smile, the colour of their eyes, their hands, the shape of their lips, the texture of their skin. not everyone can fit into general society's idea of conventional beauty, but beauty can be found in many forms and in many ways. i am also a great believer in the concept of wabi-sabi. and i have never given a compliment here which was not genuine.  | |
