I assisted a lady who simply could not get any work done because she was in meeting all the time and travelled all the time and would get sick all the time. I think this PTO (lumped sick and vacation) thing is BAD. While it does stop folks from calling in sick when they are not and wno one wants to be a watch dog etc. It means that people chunk out their PTO for vacation purposes and leave none for actually being sick. So people come into work sick all the time and thus everyone gets sick, because that person couldn't stay home. I mean REALLY it gets me when I see someone sneezing and wheezing and coughing etc. You should be HOME not at work.

I try to make it a point that unless I have to be there, I will stay home when I am sick. Now that I have a new job that allows me to work remotely, I'll be able to do so very easily.

I work at a huge company with many buildings but for MLK day it's considered "discretionary" or some beezwax like that. So. If our building is closed on MLK day we are forced to not work and take a PTO. Where if our buliding is open, it's business as usual. Makes no sense like Chewbacca.
