Ten people were shot dead and three were wounded in the spree, which began in Montgomery County, Maryland, on October 2.

Police say forensic testing links a rifle found in the suspects' car, a 1990 Chevrolet Caprice, to 11 of the victims. The weapon is a Bushmaster .223 semi-automatic rifle, significant because victims of the sniper spree were each shot once with a .223 caliber bullet. Authorities also found a scope, a tripod, and a sniper platform.

One senior law enforcement source called the Caprice a "killing machine" with two holes in the trunk, one for the rifle, the other for the scope. The backseat could fold down, enabling a potential shooter to stretch out in the back without stepping foot outside.
In a phone call to Police Muhammad himself boasted about killing before and told them to take a look at an unsolved murder case in Montgomery, Alabama. Investigators said they were able to trace a fingerprint found at that shooting scene to Malvo.

Malvo became known to the Immigration Naturalization Service in Tacoma, Washington, from an incident in December 2001 involving his mother and himself. His photograph and fingerprints were also contained in the INS records, and passed on to task force investigators.

• Muhammad and Malvo were arrested while stopped at a rest stop off Interstate 70 near Myersville, Maryland, in a 1990 blue Chevrolet Caprice, which a motorist and attendant recognized as matching the description of a vehicle that sniper probe investigators were seeking.

• Authorities in three states and the District of Columbia, where the sniper shootings occurred, are discussing who should prosecute the suspects. One issue in deciding who prosecutes the two may be the death penalty. For example, Maryland, where six victims were killed, enacted a moratorium on executions in May. But we the prosecution for Prince.org would like to have the opportunity to try this case to its visitors. Hopefully, Judge IceNine, you will allow this trial to commence.

WHO'S WHO
Charles A. Moose: The Montgomery County police chief. Moose spent six years as the first black police chief in Portland, Oregon, before coming to Montgomery County. He holds a doctorate in urban studies from Portland State University. Montgomery County Executive Douglas M. Duncan hired Moose in 1999 for what he termed the chief's steady leadership skills.

John Allen Muhammad: Arrested in connection with the sniper shootings. Muhammad also is known as John Allen Williams. He is a twice-divorced, 41-year-old Gulf War veteran who converted to Islam 17 years ago. Muhammad enlisted in the Army in November 1985 and was honorably discharged as a sergeant in April 1994. He qualified as an expert with the M-16, the Army's standard infantry rifle. He was trained as a mechanic, truck driver and as a specialist metal worker.


Lee Boyd Malvo: Arrested in connection to the sniper shootings. Malvo, 17, was born in Jamaica and came to the United States when he was 4. Authorities say he was in the U.S. illegally. Lived in a homeless shelter while he attended high school in Bellingham, Washington. Was detained by the Immigration and Naturalization Service last year and had a deportation hearing scheduled for November 20.

In closing….I would like to remind the Judge and jurors that these are not facts we are debating, but lives. Ten innocent lives were lost. Over the last three weeks, 13 people were shot and 10 people died in the Washington, D.C.-area sniper spree. Perhaps one of the most heroic stories was that of a 13-year-old boy who survived after being shot in the chest and abdomen.


The .223 caliber bullets leave a high-powered rifle at faster than 2,000 miles an hour and create a significant blast injury to the human body. In this boy's case, the left lung and numerous organs in his abdomen were affected.


Due to the quick thinking of his relative, a former battlefield nurse, he was rushed to a clinic where a tube was placed in his chest. This simple act probably saved his life since it was done quickly -- within the first hour.
The boy subsequently had an operation to stop the bleeding in his chest and abdomen, and is now recovering at Children's Hospital in Washington.
This is a testament to the fact that heroic physicians and modern techniques can save victims from life-threatening injuries. Here at Prince.org, we congratulate all the caregivers and wish the boy well on his road to recovery.
Howard Henry, a cousin to the last victim, described Conrad Johnson as "a loving father, loved being a father, loved being an example for his two boys, loved caring for them. ... He was definitely a pillar to his community and to his family."

Conrad Johnson could not defend his own life. But we the prosecution intend to. We thank the jury for their time and we thank Judge IceNine for rocking so hard!!!
