Im a diabetic and refuse to eat sugar free candies
they are bad on your digestive system.
diet sodas are worse

My mom and aunt, who are both diabetic, won't eat them either. What my aunt does when she's got a craving for a chocolate bar is cut it in half and stash one half in the freezer. The other half she takes itty bitty bites of throughout the day. Seemed like a good plan to me. She gets to still have her sugary, chocolatey goodness, but in such a way it won't bugger up her glucose levels. If I ever develop diabetes I'll have to keep that trick in mind.nod

If you read up on any of the artificial sweeteners you would not eat them.
Right after the Gulf War ended my health food store owner showed me a four pages "official" report from the effects of Aspartame. The report was about a few studies that have been done on Aspartame because during the war they shipped many things over there that were "diet", mainly soda's.
At the time my room mate was experiencing migraines and we traced it back to using artificial sweeteners.
He cut it out of his diet and did not have any more headaches. Since then I have paid close attention to aspartame. I try to avoid it as much as I can. The scary thing is that you really have to read the fine print when looking for the artificial sweeteners.
I think they need to put warnings on the front of label that it contains artificial sweeteners in bold print. It is the least they can do since I know many ppl that have side effects from ingesting the stuff.

My mom, a psych nurse, once told me artificial sweeteners can exasperate symptoms of behavioural problems like ADD. Being an ADHD kid myself and more than just a bit contrary, I thought I'd guzzle down some diet 7-Up to see what happened. I was a crazy bitch from hell all day and couldn't pay attention to anything more than 5 seconds or so, and was bouncing off the walls. lol

You just totally gave me a break through! I have a friend that is an unfocused something and she also has ADD. She drinks diet soda instead of water....No wonder she has a helluva time focusing!

Tell her to switch to water or juice. Or if she must have pop/soda/fizzy drinks, just go for the full-sugar kind.

It's amazing how eating healtheir (in this case, natural instead of synthetic sugars) can improve your behaviour. It won't cure ADD, but I know I notice a difference when I don't eat fake sugar or certain food dyes. nod

Her doc asked her how much water she drank and her response was "per week?" She told me she has about two sips a day.

Just imagine what her poor kidneys are going through!

Unless she's eating space food everyday, her body's getting plenty of water from all the fruits, veggies, and etc. that she eats.

I would say don't eat a whole bag of candy....then you can curb it.

splenda is fine in my tea, soda, coffee, things that I bake (with the splenda blend). But the candy has some kind of ingredient that will churn my insides out and give me the bubble guts.

gross....never again .....

If you have some serious stuff going on in terms of your health and your doc says you need to switch, do it, but if that's not the case avoid that junk.

Even in that situation you should work out a diet plan with your doc and make your way to the healthy sugars as well as move away from having so much in your diet.

I don't have a lot of choices for sugar free candy where I live. Most of the candy has a super-high perecentage of choco over everything else, and you have to search for sugar free items really intensely. You always have to go to an expensive chocolatier to find them and end up paying a gazillion Euros for a simple thin bar of chocolate squares...as a result, every time I go home to the States, I admit I ALWAYS make a beeline for the sugar-free Russell Stover Turtles drooling. I LOVE them...I like sugar free peanut butter cups too. luckily I've never had any stomach problems with sugar free items though. i just have a few pieces and then I'm satisfied (but they ARE good lol ).
