this is my baby. How can you not love dogs.
Dog are some of the most oyal and loving creatures. They're always happy to see you and greet you with kisses when you come home. You don't have to worry them being in a pissy mood or that they have another family across town.

I saw a Discovery Channel special on dogs that were trained to work with diabetics. The dogs were trained to alert their owners when the owner's blood sugar fell too low or went to high. Dogs are awesome.

I mean unless you want cheap protection for your home and don't feel comfortable owning a gun, what's the point? Some people's thread just make me but this is a brilliant response!!

Dogs are awesome. They are They help blind or other disabled people. For many old people they are the only friend left and there's nothing better IMO for a child than growing up with a dog. I love dogs, I don't know of any other animal that has so much unconditional love for it's owner . With a very special thank you to Tina: Is hammer already absolute, how much some people verändern...ICH hope is never so I will be! Same grooming as the ms, smaller dog but sturdy and no where near as yappy as other terriers. Positive dogs but not nervous, active but not hyper. It's my next dog breed! I'll get back to you on health issues GIRL!! You and I are on the same wave length. I was just reading up on them. We were watching the Krufts (sp?) dog show the other night. I was looking up the popular dog breeds for here. The border terrier came up in my search. When I saw the pic of the terrier pup in the post in this thread I thought about the Border terrier again. I like what I read so far except the grooming thing. I do not want another dog that goes to the groomers for a hair cut more than me. I am sure that I could sort out how to do the special technique they talk about to avoid the hair getting too long. I could not groom Willie myself because he was a spaz. Yippy... I will look into this more. I am afraid I will see something I really want before we go away. I cannot think about getting anything until May at the earliest. We are going to have house guests in June so maybe I should hold off until after all of that as well. I need to find some cuter pics of them.. I showed my other half the pics I found the other night and he curled up his nose. just figure out how to groom your new doggie your self. Thats what I did after about 4 years of taking mine to the groomer and him coming back NEVER how wanted him and different ever time. It will grow back. So you really cant mess them up too bad. The thing I hate the most is clipping his nails, which typically I'll pay them 5-8 dollars to do that for me once in a while. Though I do have a pair of nail clippers and get brave enough once in a while to do it my self. [Edited 3/12/08 9:24am]

He got a standard Schnauzer cut with the skirt and the ear plucking. I think if I had a dog like a border terrier then it would be easier...nothing fancy. I used to trim all 3 of my dogs nails. One of them would fight me the whole time, it was like wresting an alligator. I had special clippers that prevented cutting them too short. I am sure when the time is right it will work out but I do not want another high maintenance dog. I read that the border terriers do not eat much food therefore they do not poop too much. win..win...

It's not difficult to groom a BT but it'll make your fingers bleed cos you can't do it with scissors or a trimmer, only the fingers. Clipping the claws yourself is a given, you should do it every two weeks (especially when you have hardwood floors ) BT's have some health issues like Cushing's disease, Spike's syndrome and CECS, they're forms of epilepsy. Some metabolism issues are also known. BT isn't a very popular breed so you're more unlikely to find bad breeders, but you should ask any prospective breeder about their percentage of dogs carrying the conditions. Don't be afraid to look for breeders far away, it's important to get a healthy dog. The health issues aren't a major concern but they are all serious conditions that WILL affect your dog's lifespan.

As it stands right now I am averaging a hair cut every three months..I cannot stand to spend the money on myself. I would go longer if my hair did not grow so fast. My Willie got groomed every 6-7 weeks. His hair grew really fast too. I had her trim his as short as possible, even his skirt to keep the dirt out of the house. It was the ear plucking and the eye brows/beard that really needed the upkeep the most. One reason I do not want another Schnauzer. I swore I would never own another terrier.

They had a protective guard in the back of it so the nail would not go in too far. That way you did not have to worry about it cutting too deep especially if you have a wiggler. I cannot remember which site I read the part about the Border Terriers eating small amounts of food. Pretty cool if it is true... less poo.

I was born and raised around animals mainly cats and dogs. I have never once been afraid of a dog that I have encountered. I used to volunteer at an animal shelter and no matter how scared and abused the dogs were that came in, none of them scared me or ever attempted to hurt me.
They sense fear. I wish I could say that I have never feared another human or that a human has never hurt me, physically or mentally.
